who said that humans just using 20% of their brain abilities do you have reference ?

I would like to know , who said that humans just using 20% of their brain abilities do you have any scientific reference for that ?

ButterflyMelissa 07-09-2011 06:25 AM

Ehrm, depends on who/what you're talking about. In my book it says 10%, as for belgian politicians...it's 0%, the're totally brainless. And then there's blondes...but that percentage may vary...

The more used figure is 10%.

Quote:

Adding to that mystery is the contention that humans "only" employ 10 percent of their brain. If only regular folk could tap that other 90 percent, they too could become savants who remember π to the twenty-thousandth decimal place or perhaps even have telekinetic powers.

Though an alluring idea, the "10 percent myth" is so wrong it is almost laughable, says neurologist Barry Gordon at Johns Hopkins School of Medicine in Baltimore. Although there's no definitive culprit to pin the blame on for starting this legend, the notion has been linked to the American psychologist and author William James, who argued in The Energies of Men that "We are making use of only a small part of our possible mental and physical resources." It's also been associated with to Albert Einstein , who supposedly used it to explain his cosmic towering intellect.

20% is probably from the energy consumption-

Quote:

"It turns out though, that we use virtually every part of the brain, and that [most of] the brain is active almost all the time," Gordon adds. "Let's put it this way: the brain represents three percent of the body's weight and uses 20 percent of the body's energy."

Varies depending on the relative chance of a viking incursion? :D

That doesn't seem to be all that clear.

See? My point exactly! You're supposed to empty someone else's creditcard, you dont need to own one... ;)

By the way...I got black hair :D

It isn't true. What they might mean with this is that not 100% of the neurons in the brain are active at any one time. If they were, you'd probably be having a seizure. It has nothing to do with the abilities of the brain. The pathways or circuits in the brain are the important part. The structure and organization is what makes you intelligent.

The smartest blondes don't steal credit cards. They get the guy to pull his out.

What's the old saying? There's a direct relationship between the size of a woman's breasts and intelligence? The bigger they are, the dumber he is?

Yeah, Brisneyland...the one thats just north of the mould coast, south of the scumshine coast and east of dipswitch. :D

For non-locals- brisbane used to be called 'brisvegas' because of the amount of corruption, illegal casinos and brothels here. Now its 'brisneyland', the run by jackbooted fascists, 'child safe' version of the same city.

syg00 07-09-2011 08:43 AM

I know what (and where) it is, given I work there. I was interested in the Viking (boat) reference.

You got it! That was my point all along...blondes are not stupid...they pretend to be, and in the mean time...every other guy pulls out his creditcard, clever blondes!!! Of course they dont steal, they dont have to! Clever blondes (oops, repeating myself here)...

Nononononoooooooooooooo, the bigger the breasts, the lower the brainactivity ... of the men around her...the secret weapon, hidden in plain sight...clever-clever...so, there is a direct but reverse correlation between breast size and useage (percent wise) of brain power, but the two do not have to be in the same person. Gottit?

I suspect there to be a mathematical formula for it...wikipedia perhaps?

Ah women...

:D
