white noise software

I looked at some machines that generate white noise to aid sleep or relaxation, then I thought of checking for software for this purpose. I found http://download.cnet.com/White-Noise...-75739138.html, but is there any white noise software that runs in Linux (without help from wine, virtualbox, etc.)?

There are many youtube videos of misc white noise (water, wind, rain, etc)
Download the audio of one of these and use any media player on it with repeat

I'm curious if there is any dedicated cli program for whitenoise. Might be a useful project if one doesn't exist.

In the bad old days, you could just tune your wireless off station, Tah Dah! White noise! (For those too young, wireless = radio)
With auto tuning and DAB, etc, not so easy now.

Play Bonny!

Does it? Audacity is my primary music player anyway, so I'll look--no, wait, never mind, that's Audacious. I frequently confuse them. Still, I do have Audacity installed and should look into this...

Interesting. I see it also generates pink and brown(ian) noise, which I learned about only while researching this question. Looks like I could use it to make a loop of noise.
