Which has more software available, Win., Linux

Whenever i tell someone i use Linux they say " Oh, theres no software for linux" and i politely correct thm with "Theres more and its free" then i get "oh well if its free it musnt be any good" I happen to believe there is more linux software that serves a purpose than windows cuz with windows you have lots software like popup eliminators, and other utilities that windows should already have for security. What do you all think?

i would say theres more software for windows, but thats mainly due to the fact that a lot of unix software has been ported to windows and not much in the other direction. also there is a large amount of non-free linux software as well as the free stuff.

why convince them? leave the stubborn people to
rot in their miserable windows world. then whenever
they have a problem, tell them how to fix it in linux.

tell them you love the linux software that does what
they are doing, and you'd be glad to show them how to
use it.

it's the windows mindset. or possibly denial. i mean, after you've spent, what, 200 dollars on xp pro and a few hundred on other windows programs it's hard to believe that there is software and an operating system for free.

but back to the question. more software..probably windows. better software, probably linux (in regards to system bugs, plus one must factor in clippy that damnable office helper).

"it's the windows mindset. or possibly denial."

cognitive dissonance

when you realize that some thought, action or belief is
inconsistant with some other thought, action or belief
that you have. this leads to rationalizations, and
a bunch of other faulty thought processes. like using
windows cause everybody else does. then when you
find out everybody else doesn't, you go, well the
important or cool people do. then when you find out
some cool people use linux, you come up with
something else.

i paid for my xppro, and it's not the fact that i can;t believe linux is free, but i can;t believe i paid for xp

and as for softwares, as u said, linux has better ones. i don;t think counting the # of programs out there would help because any idiot can pull up MS VB, code something and put it on the internet.
