Likely any fair sized computer store. Just for the heck of it I went to Google and looked for CompUSA. The link below shows they have one in Ann Arbor:

http://www.compusa.com/locations/Sto....asp?store=409

They do have Linux on the web site so likely have it in the store. You can probably call and ask.

Also some book stores may carry it or have a basic distribution included with a book about Linux. Look in the Computers -> Operating Systems area - the books may be filed in the "Unix".

You may find it in other locations where software is sold like Office Depot/Office Max.

Of course rather than buying it you can download it from many places (including www.linuxquestions.org). Depends on whether you want to save money or time. Just remember buying it in the store doesn't make it any more supported than downloading it

P.S. You might want to Google for a local Linux User's group in Ann Arbor and see if they have any contacts that would be willing to burn you a copy. Most of us geeks love to get new victims er... I mean acquaintances to explain at length why we really love "ls" compared to DOS' "dir" or some other esoteric point. :)

long time ago

I know it's been awhile since this post and you probably have it worked out, but if it helps I live in Ann Arbor and run mandriva (downloaded) if ou want a copy I can make you one, I think I also have a suse 9.2 cd laying around somewhere and a couple of live cds as well. Also, UofM distributed their "blue hat" cain linux (secure redhat 6.2) cd if you know anyone in the eecs program (it's an outdated distro, but it does wokr).

I've used LinuxCD.org a few times and I like them. They have a wide selection, low prices and really quick delivery.

Note that you can burn these same CD's yourself for free, assuming you've got a CD-RW drive. Check out LQ ISO

Hmmm---OP is long gone. This was his most recent post--in October

One drawback to fora---not immediately obvious when we are just talking to ourselves

my fault

hmmm...thas probably my fault as I I was the first response...but if any you need to know where to get linux cds in Ann Arbor, now you know.

It's not a bad thing to keep threads up to date: if someone were to Google "linux cd ann arbor" they'd find this thread and all the good info within. Unfortunately, they'd need to go down to Google's result 33 of 800, maybe because the threadstarter spelled "Ann Arbor" with a hyphen. That sort of inattention to detail is incompatible with Linux, so maybe that also explains why the poster has vanished....

No fault is involved---I occassionally make these observations as part of my ongoing study of behavior on fora.
If you set out to find fault, you'll generally find some for everyone......

irony

The irony of it is that even after we realize our mistake, and know that we are talking to ourselves, we continue to do so:)

Shunting this off to General. The OP has either bought his cds or not.
