what phone are you using?
So i would like to know what mobile device are you using, like any specific thought maybe on android or ios, privacy concern related etc.
Mobile devices has become a huge part of people's life, tracking everything and everywhere you go. For some it's ok, they don't really care but for me its not.

I am now using an older iPhone, but I am seriously considering returning once again to a "flip phone." Because I am not willing to pay more than $1,000 for a "telephone." I simply do not use the phone for much beyond simple conversation.

I used Android for many years, but getting updates for unlocked phones is a problem as some manufactures only deliver them via carriers to their branded models, but not to unlocked versions of the same model.
The few manufactures that deliver updates directly only do so for a few years last I looked. My Moto One stopped getting updates after 2 years, but if I lived outside of the US I would have gotten another year of support and an OS upgrade.
Too much of my life is on the phone to not take security and privacy seriously, so I got an iPhoneSE going on 3 years now and still getting security and OS updates. When it is time to replace it I will have to see if any of the Android phone support has gotten better for unlocked phones.

At the moment I have an iPhone 15+. I feel that an iPhone has better security. Also, my old iPhone 8+ received 7 years of updates, so I'll have updates on my current phone for years.

I'm on a Motorola (Lenovo) Moto 5G Power 2024. My old phone (Moto One 5G Ace) was simply too far behind in updates (Android 11 still) so had to replace it. I have wanted to run a 3rd party OS, since Moto phones in general are very compatible, but after reading the instructions, I gave up on that. Too much work for me to bother with nowadays.

Samsung do a cheap range as well as their top-of-the-line ones. The internals are identical with the flash phones, but often there's fewer sensors, cheaper screens etc. I have the A200, with top spec pcb (8 core Exynos@2.4GHz), brilliant camera & all the sensors. It's the top phone in their bottom drawer .

I just don't understand how anyone can keep his bank account, his passport, his medical records, his address book and numerous other vital personal data on a device not much bigger than a playing card that he holds in his hand as he walks along the street where any passing criminal on a motorbike can snatch it away. How do you people sleep at night?

I don't know what you're taking about.
NFC is turned off on my devices, bluetooth only turned on when I'm using it. No way to hack it under normal circumstances unless you've managed to set up a man-in-the-middle repeater and have Mints encryption keys (only encrypted connections allowed in settings) to authorize encrypted communication for your man-in-the-middle.
Most personal data not on my device.
Just because a smart phone CAN be used for something, doesn't mean it HAS to be used for it. Mine is used to text mostly, for navigation, and for hotspot data when out and about with my laptops. If someone hacks my phone, they won't get any personal data other than my sister and fathers addresses and phone numbers.

I'm using a jailbroken Pixel 5 Android with Calyx OpSys. I use it only for mainly texting with my family but had to switch to the Pixel 5 from a flip phone due to my bank's requirement for 2nd Party Authentication via SMS and my flip nor Vonage could not do SMS. I was quite happy with Vonage for voice but dropped my contract when SMS became de rigeur.
I understand that Graphene is a harsher replacement OpSys, more strict than even Calyx, but my research caused me to find a reasonable balance between convenience and security with Calyx. I avoid mixing PC and Phone with a vengeance beyond wired tethering with KDE Connect for backups and file transfers. I turn off wifi phone calling when I leave the house and only turn wifi reception on IN my house for my TV which has neither a microphone nor a camera. Even my network printer is wired.

Agreed. So I disable all bundled Samsung apps, and never opened a Samsung account. I need a google account, but most of their apps are disabled too, as are all social media tripe. Most Notifications from Apps are forbidden. It's the best I can do without rooting it.

We use ours as phone/text/picture machine. Occasional a gps when out of state. Only apps are apps that came on it (and 99% are stuffed into a folder icon so I don't see them). My IPhone is a work phone (mine), and a cheaper Android for wife. I to don't understand keeping banking and everything else on a 'phone'. Pictures are off-loaded to my local server. No cloud usage/dependence .

It kills me to admit my old phone was replaced by my wifes iphone 13 when she got a 16 pro max. Its not terrible. I don’t use it for much beyond maps and texting but it could be worse. Much more responsive than any droid ive ever had.

There are some tasks that you can do on an iPhone that are very secure. For example, using Apple Pay is more secure than using an actual credit card. I buy everything using Apple Pay with my iPhone.

Android.
But to echo Hazel, I wouldn't any banking or payment information on it on a bet. And I keep "location services" turned off unless I have a positive for it, which is almost never. (I like to use maps--remember maps?--because I really like maps.)
