Question what is the differnece


Any one explain what is the difference between http://www.123.com and
http://123.com.
Both are using HTTP protocol.But whether that www makes any difference or what?.Problem is I can not access some websites if i give http alone.If i give http://www or www it is working .

http://123.com usually means it's a "private" network. I put the private in quotes because it doesn't always mean the network is private. eg: All of the sourceforge.net sites are like: http://k3b.sourceforge.net

Moved: More suitable in General as its not a Linux related question.

It all really depends on the site as how they have it setup. You can have either www.whatever.com or just whatever.com

Some sites where you type www will redirect to just the name.com and such. Most sites just setup their DNS and webservers though to accept both for the same domain, etc.

i have the same problem with many sites
