What filesystem do you use?
I know, probably a repeat question, but I just tried XFS for the first time today. Since the only other filesystem I've used under linux is ext3, I was quite impressed. My system is a bit snappier now, and programs don't take as long to load.
What's your personal favorite?

Ditto, XFS... I was reading www.linuxtoday.com today while bored at work and ran accross an article that mentioned it was about time for joe average user to start testing out 2.5 kernels... so I downloaded 2.5.65 and ran through it and was so relieved to find that xfs was built in...
Between that, the 01 scheduler, the pre-emtable kernel... there's a lot of nifty stuff going on. 2.6.x is gonna rock!
Also, check out sgi's open source pages on XFS, lots of easily digestable info on why it is pretty much the king of journaling filesystems.
Cheers,
Finegan

I use reiserfs almost exclusively (only /boot gets ext2), but finegans barrage of XFS propeganda is slowly wearing me down.

Ext2, Ext3 and ReiserFS. No XFS, for now (don't have a machine when I can test it, they all MUST work correctly all the time). But I guess I'd look into it deeper in 2.6.x.

I'm pretty certain you can't, unlike Linux which has never really had a journaling filesystem of its own (okay, ext3 sorta, but it was the fourth available working journaling fs), all of the BSDs have their own filesystems, the Berkeley Fast Filesystem, FFS for Net and Open... and UFS is still FreeBSDs?
Here's an LMag article from a while back, I didn't realize Reiser can technically have a 1Eb file, that's an Exobyte kids... Gig, Tera, Peta, Exo... 10*18, boooowang!
Admitedly according to that same article, Reiser can only have a single filesystem of 17.5Tb, so I'm a bit at a loss... How can a chicken hatch from an egg smaller then its beak? Who knows, maybe that doesn't preclude using a lot of LVM over multiple FSs.
Okay... so XFS can handle a 9Eb file, compared to Ext, which can handle a 2Tb file... or a difference of 4.5x10*3... A 9 Exobyte file... Let's see:
If half my roommate's mp3's is 2471 files at 7.5Gb, which is 3045k/per mp3, then.... a 9Eb file would be:
2.96x10*12 mp3s in size....
No, that's still ridiculously big.
Cheers,
Finegan

OK - I have to say it. I'm waiting on the edge of my seat for reiser4. One more delay (it's been pushed ahead again to june 20 2003).
You know you want it.
