I ordered/purchased the Pine Phone four days ago supposedly to be shipped this coming week. It has the kill switches for lTE, WiFi, etc. In order not to be tracked by the numerous cell towers the LTE kill switch is enabled but the only means of making receiving calls would be through a WiFi connection. Correct?

Thanks

I'm not sure how good Wi-Fi calling works on the PinePhone currently. I have used Telagram to call another Telegram user and that worked just fine. So in theory it works but I haven't checked into it much.

Interestingly from my experience, Wi-Fi seems to make it easier to pinpoint where your are at vs cell towers. From what I hear it's currently quite unreliable to get GPS location(or any location other than ip) on the PinePhone. Plus there's really no difference between plugging a modem into your desktop. Basically the same OS.

Supposedly, WiFi calling works on my $199 Convergence edition but I haven't used it yet. I still use jmp when I don't want to be tracked.

Whether or not it is ready to be your daily driver or not depends a lot on how you use your phone.

You can boot off of sd cards and distro hop throughout the day if you need to. The battery life isn't great, but a power bank and/or phone charger for your car should do the trick.

Concerning the PinePhone Modem. I just stumbled over this blog post by a PostmarketOS dev: https://dylanvanassche.be/blog/2021/...e-modem-myths/

^ It gives a nice overview of all the work that goes into getting the most important feature of an open smartphone (or in fact any phone) to work reliably. Thanks for sharing.
