That is a big compliment and probably – as far as I remember – unjustified. I only play what I like and cannot invest too much time into getting over obstructions.
That said, I like this video clip. But I am only rarely listening as a “musician”. When it becomes complicated – or devilishly clever playing, it is better accompanied by beauty. Else, I am inert. I acknowledge skill and effortlessness, but to make me a “fan”, much simpler conditions should be met.
We could start a few controversies about the glory that is allowed to some and not to others.

Understood. My own Son who is also a player and also not a Jeff Beck fan, noted that he thinks that's because he (my Son) is more into Rhythm than Melody and Jeff Beck is definitely melodic. I'm glad you clarified your reaction and allowed me to understand your view properly. Art is subjective and selective, after all.
Yeah anyone even remotely close to The Biz realizes it is not a meritocracy. I've personally known quite a few "Best guitar players you've never heard". Some enjoyed some success while it literally killed many. I guess dumb luck is often the final arbiter.
