Since I had presented the vinyls to an astonished shopkeeper who didn't know he had them, I always took this for one of the weaker songs. But YouTube fixed that.

Reason: grammar. I'm lerrnink
Greetz all
I suppose this is a kind of shameless self-promotion and my only defense is that I'm pretty excited this recording has even survived. I was digging around through ancient storage and came upon a box I hadn't paid any attention to for a very long time but somehow just kept moving with me for decades... 3 decades, actually. It was a cache of old cassette tapes and I hadn't even powered up a cassette deck in a decade so I had no idea if it would work let alone tapes that old still play especially as maltreated as my various storage situations have been.
Anyway this is probably not for everyone 'cuz it's not a radio friendly 3 minute or less song. This is a dimly lit, smoky old barroom brawl, a sprawling jam session performed by mostly strangers. I was invited by a friend and he and one other guy were the only players I'd ever met before. Even if you're not a fan of smoky clubs or sprawling Jazzy Blues jams you might possibly be interested in the technology of either how long tape can last at all or how much rejuvenation is possible with a serious DAW. It sounds stunningly good to my ears but thjen I was there so it transports me back in time and nostalgia is a potent force.

Which DAW was serious enough to get it done? The recording sounds good to my ears too! Blues is a pretty dependable genre. I learned Ardour, and can appreciate what went into remastering those tracks. I don't even hear any analog hiss or the like. Awesome!
Hello slac-in-the-box and thank you for your kind words. I started playing with Ardour back when it was first "released" as pure source code with no installation notes as Mr.Davis wanted to discourage all but he most avid so he didn't have to field a million support questions. However for this one I was actually surprised the tape didn't suffer too badly, mostly losses in the extremes. Years ago I had a much tougher time with material on cassette that was not only as old but was recorded very badly as well and I worked for months in Win98SE with a very expensive (though naturally just 32 bit) DAW by Magix, called Sequoia.
Back then I wanted the CD production tools so I sprung the bux. I also bought the VST plugin for BBE, the Barcus Berry Enhancer, which apparently works with phase relationships but whatever it is actually doing, it is extremely potent and useful and I trained on it so I wanted to use that set. I tried running Sequoia in WINE and it works kinda OK but I decided to take no chances, and just did it on an older PC, a Z77 Extreme, but with a decent ESI Juli@ sound card at very high sampling rates. It's not as cool as my newer rig with an Asus Essence II sound card but Windows 7 won't run on the Z490 chipset so it had to do.
Naturally I hear all the flaws but it turned out pretty decently I think... and thanks again
Sorry Michael. I'm assuming you know Jeff Beck died. I seriously doubt his music ever will. He's already missed as is John Mayall.
Yes I knew. The German Usenet is more talkative, these days. The little I knew of Jeff Beck, not being a fan, is about the influence which is heard in other peoples' creations. So it goes with everything “great”: The good things linger, but who cares about why Gingerbread was invented...
