This won't make anyone smile. It's kinda dark and it is probably NSFW and many will find it disturbing, maybe even especially since it is done by Kawehi, a cute lady with huge musical talent on many instruments and voice with technology and usually involved in far lighter love songs. If you've never experienced Kawehi before, perhaps do a search for something lighter by her first but I chose this because it's potent and deserves recognition and the Neda incident should not be forgotten.

I am mostly listening to Johnny Cash, and a group called the Beautiful South.

Next week it may be house music - I change tastes often.

Lysander666 - When you say Dark and Industrial, given most of your past posts I guess I just raced by a few other words in your actually accurate description. It was indeed atmospheric and somehow mixes pretty ambient drone with industrial punctuation (nice stuff) but at first glance I was expecting a bit more like this ---

I never got the industrial metal sound, though I quite enjoyed that Ministry track and it's given me impetus to go and have a listen to other similar material. The 1980s was so fond of technology and its blinkered vision of "the future" that I'm surprised that industrial metal didn't exist more back then. I shouldn't complain though, the 1980s was an excellent decade for metal - thrash, death, black, folk, prog, avant-garde all came into their own. The '80s was very much about excess and it shows in the sound of extreme metal that burgeoned in the decade, whereas the 'futuristic' sound of electro music was reserved more for the pop scene.

I suppose industrial metal was more of a '90s thing, this obsession with technology and the future became almost pessimistic and the industrial sound became mixed with heavy slab of goth vis a vis Skinny Puppy, NIN and other bands I never got into because they seemed more about style than substance. Even WASP had a go at an industrial style with Kill, F***, Die. Then there are games like Doom and Quake which really crystallized the industrial Gothic feel of the decade's subcultures.

With regard to the Caroline K, I find dark ambient to be an infinitely fascinating genre and one which is still going strong. It had a much more organic sound in the 1980s, far more raw, Nurse With Wound's Soliloquy for Lilith being a good example. Glad you enjoyed it, it ranks up there with other lesser know gems from the decade. So, to round off, how about some of this?

This Mortal Coil - Dreams Made Flesh

Ethereal Wave/Darkwave/Ethnic*

*how dare I make such a vague stab at a 'world subgenre', my institution would kill me.

I'm sure I know this as a Dead Can Dance song.
not surprising, considering that This Mortal Coil was an all-4AD-band project.
