What do I do with md5 files?

md5? I want to burn gentoo to CDs to try to install it (I'm on windows right now) But I know the md5 files make sure that everything's working properly in the iso file... what do I do with the md5 files? I've got these files:

athlon-xp-1.4-20030911-cd1.iso
athlon-xp-1.4-20030911-cd1.iso.md5
athlon-xp-1.4-20030911-cd2.iso
athlon-xp-1.4-20030911-cd2.iso.md5

Sorry if this isn't the right place to post this. I just didn't know where else to.. yeah I did look at all the other categories.

on windows systems you can use Advanced CheckSum Verifier from http://www.irnis.net to verify MD5 files
