He must not like Linux.

Besides, it's just for fun. Dang.

What shall I do now?
I know! I'll type "What shall I do now? I know! I'll type "What shall I do now?"."

I was also thinking that before, then I thought the reason is is called impossible rather than infinity is because no matter how many 0s you add together, you don't get closer to the goal of 1.

So no matter how many times you add 0, it will always be 0.

But the idea that numbers continue to infinity is valid because they do move towards it.

If you count up indefinitely, you reach infinity.

lupusarcanus 01-17-2010 07:44 AM

0 does not indicate direction.

MTK358 01-17-2010 07:47 AM

I wonder about "0 divided by 0"? I guess the answer would be any number?

Hmmm... how do you suppose to stop at some point and decide you reached infinity, provided you're immortal? :D

lupusarcanus 01-17-2010 07:50 AM

No, because you have nothing to divide. So its zero.

Dinithion 01-17-2010 07:58 AM

0.999... = 1
1 - 1 = 1 - 0.999... = 0
infinity*0 = infinity*(1 - 0.999...)
infinity - 0.999...*infinity > 0

Or something? Ok, I'll admit it. It's not valid. Anyway, you can't draw the conclusion that 0*a=0 to infinity*0 = 0. You can't treat infinity as an integer. So you need to take some sort of limit as a approach infinity. That's my geek-talk for today. :)

brianL 01-17-2010 08:28 AM

You can't count up to infinity. Any number, however large, that you can count up to is finite.

MTK358 01-17-2010 08:45 AM

I am saying that counting up does get you closer to infinity, unlike adding 0 to itself.

I was reading and it says that 0/0 = any number.

Chuck Norris counted to infinity. Twice.

thread title -- what are you doing now ??

My answer...Simply unsubscribing from thread. this thread started some where... keep on going and going.... to infinite ( may be ).

bye to all subscribers.

I bet he could do it an infinite number of times, too.

But, any number divided by itself, = 1 doesn't it? :p
