I'm reading a satire by Ben Elton called Identity Crisis. It's about political correctness and the hashtag culture. Obviously it's exaggerated for effect but I recognised at least one of the story lines as a genuine one from a year or so ago. There's also a public relations company who do very much what Cambridge Analytica did, and the Russians are involved too, as some people think they were in the election of Trump.

Thank you!
Reading We Are Bob as I type and if it carries on this good I'll continue to read the whole series.

Sounds interesting:

What is autism and where has it come from? Increased diagnostic rates, the rise of the 'neurodiversity' movement, and growing autism journalism, have recently fuelled autism's fame and controversy. The metamorphosis of autism is the first book to explain our current fascination with autism by linking it to a longer history of childhood development.

Le Monde Diplomatique (english)
More precisely the list of impostures by Bernard-Henri Lévy (french).

I am subscribed for years, but the online version is a real treasure... not even using Cookies.

You already mentioned Le Monde Diplomatique earlier, and I'm trying to remember why it is so familiar. Maybe some place I used to frequent long ago had an abonnement and I have read quite a few articles, leaving a distinct impression of ultra high quality independent journalism. I seem to remember they have (or at least had) a German translation.

German

Germany. Monthly and monthly supplement in the daily Die tageszeitung, Friedrichstraße 21, 10969 Berlin. Circulation: 80,000. Internet site: www.monde-diplomatique.de

Switzerland. Monthly supplement in the WochenZeitung, Hardturmstrasse 66, 8031 Zurich. Circulation: 20,000. Internet site: www.woz.ch/lmd/aktuell

Source: https://mondediplo.com/foreign-editions

But I have to admit, that I do not like the presentation on the German Web-site. If you look at the side-bar on the left, under „Zeitung“:
  • Aktuelle Ausgabe
  • Audio
  • Comics
  • Kunst
This looks terribly generic and at the same time terribly „German“. There is no archive and all the qualities of the newspaper or the original French site are absent.

Horatio Hornblower

Cecil Scott Forester: « Retour à bon port » (probably “The happy return”)

Keywords: Natividad, El Supremo, Gregory Peck, Lydia, ... Lady Wellesley

The first time that I read Forester in French. At age 12 or so, I got a nice German translation of “The Commodore” and “The Lord“ in one single hard-cover, then read some of paperback editions either in English or German, as they came along...

Now, a cousin of my wife told her that a certain French editor only publishes “great” books, all are worth reading. So she went searching for these books and bought one. At home, I was astonished... she had hated the BBC-Series with Ioan Gruffudd...
« You bought that ?»
« Yes, should be a good read, according to S. »
« For me ?»
« Why ? OH NO!! It's Hornblower !!»

Cool...
