What a crappy decade

So another year has passed and even another decade. man what an utterly abhorrent, depressing, useless (insert_your_own_impressions_here) of a decade this was. I guess its true, it just gets worse year by year.

And now a recap of `09...

Actually, this decade doesn't end til the last day of next year. So we still got a year to go for this decade to redeem itself.

The year 1AD was the first year following the birth of Jesus. Thus the end of the first decade was at the end of the year 10AD. We have, however, traditionally celebrated decades, centuries, and millenia, when the last digit rolled from 9 to 0. In other words, we've fairly consistently celebrated these events one year early.

So--do you want to be right or consistent?

Oh, no! Here we go again with the same debate as when the millenium was approaching (or had already passed according to which side you stood on in the debate).
Anyway, crappy is as crappy does...

Don't hold your breath though.

Im happy with decades starting with 0 and ending in 9. It's so much fun to talk about the 80's or 90's and mean 80-89 or whatever. Same with centuries and millennium. Im all about making life easier, not sounding like the douche bag at the party correcting everyone.

I think there have actually been worse decades---eg the 1930s. 186X was no picnic either.

Waiting for the **real** end of the decade will probably not help much.....;)

One good thing about the last decade - I belatedly developed an interest in computers and then Linux. Not much to offset all the crap that's happened, but...
