what's a portable Bluetooth speaker for? seriously, I'm not sure

I'm looking through my box of miscellaneous dis-used or un-used gadgets, and found an old but unopened keychain Bluetooth speaker that someone gave me. An iFrogz "tadpole" speaker. I'm not sure I can ever use this thing anyway, because it's apparently designed for Apple iDevices and I don't use any; but--help me out here. What would I do with a portable speaker? Why would I want to listen to music with a speaker instead of headphones?

I think part of the problem here is that, as a 39-year-old Xer, I am not part of the culture of people who glibly play their personal devices without headphones in public...

Anyway, this device is probably going to Goodwill unless I figure out I have a real use for it.

Maybe use for listening to podcasts or audiobooks where sound quality is not that important? But that depends on battery life

That's what I was afraid of. You have to be willing to disturb others with music they don't want to hear.

You could use it at home or the office or some other private space.

But I get it. I'm in your age group and there are technologies which don't make any sense to me... and there seem to be more of them each year.

Or use it to share music with others that they do want to hear, as at a party.
Back in the day, we used to do that with record players...

For the simple concept of playing music out loud for multiple people to listen to, in a household setting.

I was going to say something else, but let's be honest here. A keychain speaker? Not good for anything. It's a novelty.

^ this.

Bluetooth speakers can be extremely powerful for their size (read: good overall sound quality, loudness, real bass) and I find them useful in certain settings.
But a speaker small enough to be on a keychain cannot be much better than the phone's builtin speakers.

I've something similar; as long as it is bluetooth, you can connect any device (bluetooth capable) to it - not just for iDevice .
I use my speaker on days that I work from home.
May be give it to your niece/nephew (although their parents may not be thrilled with the noise maker)?

One usage I see is when you want to play audio without a headset.

I don't wear a headset when I'm exercising or mucking about at my workbench--the wires get in the way.

Or when doing chores. Bluetooth speaker is not just toy for children. Not only wires get in way but your ears are 'taken' so will be deaf if need to listen to music and talk with others around. Also in old vehicles without|broken radio it allows radio while driving without distractions and still listening to radio or music. Or when go camping etc.
