OMG ..did i read MSN in the thread???

Please don't support M$...it'll just encourage Billy Gates to put another room on his house....

just kidding.....i use cable....which is another true monopoly....
i also use exobit networks...bunch of folks bought out the boss....decent dial access...but can't beat cable for download speed....

just my 3 cents

Cox, in USA. I can surf the web faster than most users, for the folowing reason:
Cox has 3 DNS servers, and they don't rotate them on the DHCP server, so everybody ends up using the same primary DNS, and it gets bogged down. I discovered this when I tried pinging both www.google.com and the corresponding IP address. I simply edited /etc/resolv.conf to use the secondary as the primary and it's running much faster now.
I really have no other choice for broadband... DSL is too slow, anything else is WAY too expensive.

BajaNick:
You got that right, bruddah; they run those ads in the Washington Post also. The major local service provider of plain old telephone service (POTS) on the EastCoast, Verizon, is largely under the Union's thumb and the customer/clients captive market is the last concern in the pecking order. They could care less what a client thinks or wants. The main concern is to lobby Congress and the SEC and FCC for favorable rulings and legislation to set in stone whatever current advantage that they have. I HATE the phone companies for their transparent cowardice.

Telefonica, Spain

they're like microsoft but in the communications market... although in this case, despite several 'flamy' opinions about them, they give the best service for DSL, at least (considering they only guarantee 15% of the real bandwidth and they still don't give FastPath mode to everyone). Dial access is a complete different world... and they're quite expensive, but compared to other companies' offers, I could say their prices are in the 'average' scale
