Weplab problem, how do i get it to work?

I am not a jedi in this yet, a friend said that if I wanted to acess the net I had to get wepkey so i went to sourceforge and searched weplab which is something which offers wireless encription, but don't currently understand it. I generally don't understand technical stuff. can some one please walk me through it. It is for linex correct? I am reading this kind of stuff though cause perhaps eventually i will understand what is going on. Gosh is it ever dry reading though...
thanks for your time
