Just so you know, I feel like crap. Here is what has been happening. I say this to only be honest.

I should have either not posted....or posted the truth. I have had constant heachaches that have lasted most of the day for about 1 month now. I have had them before too. I have been to the doctor and I feel much better now. If any of you have ever known anyone that has bad long lasting headaches, you know it affects their thinking. I just wanted to let you all know this. I don't mean anybody any harm, and I also don't think there is anything wrong with being here. My main problem is that I often felt obligated to be here. I felt that if I wasn't here a lot helping out that I may be looked at like a fool, or a "slacker". I end up looking more like a fool like this. Either way, I just wanted to say thanks to you all. Thanks for being cool. Thanks for not being a "jerk" to me. Thanks for hangin'.

However this ends up, I am OK with. I just wanted to be honest with you all.

Well... This is it.

It's been fun. I've enjoyed being here while I have been. I've enjoyed doing stuff for the Wiki site and for this site. I've learned a great deal. I just have to go.

I will not come back this time. I can't.

For those of you that this pertains to: I realize it's 3 strikes and you're out. Well, I'm out for good. By my choice.

Reason:
I simply have too much to do. I am getting my MCSE for Server 2003, and also my MCDBA certs. I already have an NT4 MCSE and also a Linux+ cert. I need to do more stuff with real people. I need to spend time with real people outside and enjoy nature and the smell of the outside air. I have spent too much time inside on computers. I am fortunate enough to be able to work on servers/networks/computers for a living ( I'm a systems engineer for a large hospital). I don't need to come home and spend so much time on computers. Even if I do spend time on computers, I can't spend time at LQO anymore. Why? Because other than learning I need to do things that further my life, career, in addition to learning. I can either spend time at LQO and get nothing in return but knowledge (and I'm not discounting this at all), or I can do things that make me money and give me happiness also. I can do things for my church, or for other companies, that give me knowledge and many other things in return. If I were Jeremy or one of the mods, it may be different because I would have a sort of "vested interest" in this site. I however can gain only knowledge from this site, yet I have to spend quite a bit of time to get just that. I guess what I'm saying is why help someone else with their site and get nothing in return if I can help myself with my own site and see great returns?

Oh well. Some of you may get this.....some may not.

Sorry to hear it buddy. Well, we never have actually had a chance to talk, but at least we did not fight :p. I really agree with you. Life is short and we have to do stuff that gives us pleasure. I've myself a son of 2 years old and we don't spend much time together. I have 5 networked old boxes here at home that gets a lot of attention. Now I'm trying to quit it a little bit, spend time with my family, get a guitar, I need to have a hobby, you know.

After all, everything that we do too much leads to trouble. Spending 5 minutes at the forum helping somebody is good. Being here all day without looking outside the window is really bad. Grabbing a bear with a friend once in a week talking about stuff is cool Drinking until you fall is not healthy.

You get my point :). Try to find something that you like to do besides computer, take a brake. But please, don't think that you are any better or any worse then the moderators or Jeremy, the root. We are in a community and as long as everybody does a little bit, we all will keep moving forward. Just we do our part and that's what matters....

Good bye Dave, we will miss you. I hope that at some time you will have to time to come back. Good luck with that happyness thing. Rember you don't have to be on LQ all the time, just come back every now and then. I hope to see you again. And helping others is not a waste of time, in fact, quite the inverse. How did you learn linux, someone shared there knowlage(sp?) with you, and you are doing the same for us.

Well I quited GNU/Linux, because i didn't have enough time. After that i didn't enoy computers at all. So I decided to comeback.

I am a very new member to this (great!) forum, I've read a lot of your posts and learned a great deal from them. The folks in your hospital are lucky to have a guy like you managing the computer systems :)

What you could do is, set some day aside in the week that you are not allowed to come here and sitck to it.

I too spend too much time on the computer. I have stopped worrying about certifications and letters after my name since those are more helpful to entry level, once your in the profession, experiance helps more than anything so I highlight that on an interview. This gave me back some time. Switching to linux gave me more time, no more rebooting for the lastest M$ patch, making sure my virus sigs updated ot running ad-aware, basically got rid of more of my pc "maintenance" at home. Gave away most of my "lab" computers and bought a nice small light laptop for my main machine so I can study/experiment/read forums from my couch instead of the "computer room"
Have noticed that alot in this profession enjoy wood butchering, gets you out of the house and into the garage/shed/shop, gets your hands dirty/handle dangerous tools with loud motors and fist spinning things/ get satisfaction of cutting/sawing/drilling something that you meatally replace with an image of that server you spent last night fighting a problem on :)
