Webcam chatting?

My brother moved to the USA last year, whilst my parents stayed in the UK. As an Xmas present, I bought them webcams & microphones for their PCs, so they can now see & speak to each other free over MSN.

I'd like to join in, but Gaim doesn't support webcams, and it seems a bit laborious, using an IM service to see each other on webcam.

So: Can anybody suggest a way of chatting to somebody with a webcam that doesn't involve IM services? It has to be something that can run on XP as well as Linux, as I'm the only Linux user. We're all on broadband.

(I didn't have much luck with Googling for an answer here - too many dodgy sites come up when you search for "talking to people with webcams )

There are many programs (for both Linux and Windows) that will stream the webcam over a website (I.e. Java). One of these may be able to help you. This google search is fairly clean: http://www.google.com/search?q=webca...en-US:official

You could try GnomeMeeting. It's a videoconfrencing application. I don't know if it runs on Windows, but the web site claims it can communicate with MSN. http://www.gnomemeeting.org/
