Warning Labels !!!!

Please pardon this old man for a moment. I came across something a few of you might get a kick out of:

Good labels - speaks volumes about the mentality of the people they are aimed at!

Seems to me, in this era of McDonalds hot-coffee lawsuits these warnings are not so much stupid as ways to cover you ass from litigation. I swear there are people who make a living by frivolous lawsuits.

I saw one one time, on the bottom of a bean container that said "Do not turn upside down", and this was on the bottom!

In the 1970's when I was a member of the Teamsters union I wore sweatshirts to work that read " NO " on the front and " Warning Defective Robot " on the back. This proved an effective way to shun nonsense.

microsoft/linux 02-12-2006 10:14 AM

I don't get it....

PTrenholme 02-12-2006 10:53 AM

The only one I saw that was, actually, not so strange was the "No Stopping or Standing" at the bus stop, since that's a traffic message telling drivers to neither "stop" (leave their car) nor "stand" (halt their car, but remain in it) where the bus is expected to stop. A simple "No parking" would not exclude the "Standing."

Edit: One they missed -- "Warning: Contains peanuts" on a jar of peanut butter, and another "Warning: Contains soy" on a tofu (soy-bean curd) package.

baldy3105 02-13-2006 06:52 AM

And of course there's also the age old dilema of whether "Wet Paint" is a warning or an instruction.

cousinlucky 02-19-2006 02:21 PM

" Warning - Defective Robot " means that pushing this human's buttons will not bring to you the results that you expected.
Instead of being a " yes " type of person; I was/am a " No " person. Therefor Prone to refuse all requests for yes answers.

My favorite was on a chainsaw label warning you not to attempt to stop the chain with your genitals.

pixellany 02-22-2006 09:28 PM

Somehow this all reminds me of one of my pet projects which has not quite yet reached the implementation stage: Develop a comprehensive assessment of the societal implications of discovery of a cure for stupidity.

Not real sure when I'll be getting to this....;)

I'm now going to start a parallel thread on bizarre responses from tech support--some of which are know to be robotic.

slantoflight 02-22-2006 09:48 PM

"Do not dangle the mouse by its cable or throw the mouse at co-workers." -- From a manual for an SGI computer.

Darn.

"Do not use orally after using rectally." -- In the instructions for an electric thermometer.

Thats just plain gross. There should lawsuits AGAINST labels like these.

shotokan 02-26-2006 12:05 AM

Have any of you heard of Cow-orkers or In-duh-viduals?
(I'm speaking mainly to cousinlucky.)

SaintsOfTheDiamond 02-26-2006 01:01 AM

Don't ya just lose a little bit of your faith in humanity when you realize that people are indeed stupid enough to try some of that stuff? :p

cousinlucky 02-26-2006 07:32 AM

No I haven't, Shotokan!! Please Do Not provide an explaination!!
