VirtualBox - teleport running VMs

Hello, All,

So I've been reading up a bit on VirtualBox's teleport feature. I think that this sounds pretty cool because I have a VM on which I have this "PaperPort" program installed, and I use it for some personal document management. The thing is, I have one box which is plenty powerful, but is a bit of a power hog (2x graphics cards, Phenom II x4 940). For that reason, I keep the computer hibernating most of the time and just keep the VM running on an old laptop running Arch linux. I already have a WOL configuration that I can use to wake up my "heavy-duty" computer, but I would like a way to have the VM run on the laptop, but then if the usage increases too much for an extended period of time (I have the software import from a folder on Google drive and it OCRs text of scans I take with my phone), my desktop should wake up and the VM should teleport to my desktop.

The thing is, in all of the instructions I see, you need to add a switch when starting the VM to teleport it to another box. By adding the "--teleport on" switch, though, then when you start the VM, it waits for another box to connect to it. How is this useful? Why would I even bother starting the VM on one box if I need to go to another to have it "receive" the VM? Why not just start it on the second box in the first place? I'm looking for a way to run the VM on one box and then (automatically or manually) enter a "vboxmanage" or other command to teleport the running machine to another box. Can that be done?

Maybe I read https://www.virtualbox.org/manual/ch07.html#teleporting differently but it reads: "Start the machine on the source host as usual. When it is running and you want it to be teleported, issue the following command on the source host: VBoxManage controlvm <sourcevmname> teleport --host <targethost> --port <port>".
So basically you start and use your VM and only when the threshold is exceeded then you start the "target" VM and then you "teleport" the VM from "source".

I think you're right. I think I was going backwards with it. I'll have to wait a while to give it a shot because I screwed up my VM somehow
