Video Games Hero

Had no idea that the Video Game Industry is this large.

If the Video Game Industry is this big then MS Windows will always exist as a big majority. Most Video Games are made for Windows OS. Then Linux will always be lagging far behind.

What is your opinion in this regard ?

Most games are made for consoles, where m$ is far behind nintendo and sony.
Most PC games are multiplayer and many needs servers. Linux 100% owns m$ @server use, that's why almost all CS and Quake are Linux-powered. So the frontier is thin now. Of course CS isn't native, but it's well emulated by wine.
Most blockbusters are now native (unreal tournament, doom3, cod).
World of warcraft isn't native, but it's not a problem, because it isn't a game, it's a drug.
So "Linux will always be lagging far behind" is wrong.

Gaming has been pretty big for a while, there are professional comps held in capital cities here all the time and a lot of major LAN parties are starting to get some pretty decent prize money for their inhouse competitions.

When you dig through the crap, in essence it's just the percentage of the population staying at home playing computer games has grown considerably as the technology increases. If sponsors want to be able to reach those people they need to target them where the advertising will be seen which is why you're starting to see some major names behind your local bi-monthly LAN party. It's obviously working too otherwise they wouldn't be putting that sort of money in...
