Using Rapidshare, Megaupload As Binary Linux Repository

Most "up to date" versions of Linux applications/libraries are only available as source code or CVS or SVN or GIT.

The user had to compile the source code for their own distro.

Is it possible for authors to provide binary packages for multiple distro and multiple applications using Rapidshare, Megaupload, MediaFire, Zshare or other storage website?

For Rapidshare some pro Linux members are willing to change the temporary file to permanent file.

User can use Rapidlibrary, Funfail or other search engines to search binaries packages for their distro.

Is this idea possible?

BTW: Is there any other good Rapidshare/Megaupload/Mediafire search engine?

Doesn't a package manager already do this stuff?

Maby you could post a link to a discussion where linux people are talking about changing a temporary file to permanent.
