Upgrading the wireless card on a Panasonic Toughbook series laptop
Hello all,
I have two older version Panasonic Toughbook laptops with Intel Core 2 Duo processors. One of them is a Make1 and the other is Make2. The Make1 came with an Intel 4965G wireless card and I want to upgrade it to a Wireless-N card. I installed an Intel Wifi 5100 Wireless-N card but it didn't pick it up, that is, even though the wireless switch was on and I was able to see the new wireless card in the Device manager, I got the message that the wireless is turned off. I was wondering if I install an Intel 4965GN wireless-N card, would it work? Anyone had any experience with it? The best thing to do is to try of course, but I was wondering if anyone ever tried it.. |
From what I've read online many vendors whitelist specific wireless nIC hardware in their BUIOS which means you may be restricted in what you can do here. For example...

Thank you for the reply. It is a Panasonic Toughbook CF-52. I wasn't able to upload an image of it.

Thanks for disclosing the model. There are variations to this model that may also be relevant here. The image is unnecessary anyway. Anyway, here's an old thread I found involving a discussion around whitelisting hardware with this model
http://forum.notebookreview.com/thre...telist.703862/ Not sure how successful those that posted were with changing the wifi card though. If I were in this position, I think I'd settle for using a modern USB wifi device instead. |
