uh-oh...a windows question..edit the desktop context menu
this question pertains to windows xp professional...
hey guys...i was wondering if anyone knew a quick little registry edit to allow me to add or remove items from my desktop context menu (the menu that pops up when you right click your desktop). right now i have the standard menu..."arrange icons", "refresh" , "paste", "new" and "properties". i would like to add one that launches a command promt...basicly a link to cmd.exe...if anyone know how to do this i would definitely appreciate it.

I wonder why there's no Windows forum to post that on...?
Oh yes, because nobody would give their time to further the cause of something that doesn't work properly and has already set them back quite a large sum of money. That's why.
Don't worry, I'm not bitchin on you, just wanting you to see that it's better to share knowledge. The days when everybody guarded VERY jealously, their computer knowledge is past, anything is fair game.
It's getting better....Way better than the old days. Personally, I will not refuse a question or even a short training stint, I won't be be part of the way it used to be.
Back in the 70's and 80's...Hell, going into the 90's even, you had to pull teeth to get any knowledge. Everyone kept what they knew close to the vest. The internet's explosion basically ripped it apart, you can find ANYTHING on the net. No one wanted to give away their power, which was knowledge. If someone else knew how to do your job, then you weren't necessary. Techs were lords of the domain for a while there, it was some type of magic to the majority of the population. Of course, then everyone finally figured it out it is like anything else, once you've done it....it's easy. Younger techs now are much more willing to share what they know. But then, part of the problem is also patience. Once you get to a certain level, it get's hard to step down far enough to communicate the knowledge, and it can be exasperating.
I fight that exasperation because it was so hard to get the knowledge, and it's not what you would call fair. So I give it freely, albeit at times I need a break. Thankfully, most kids are bright nowadays.
It's kind of the natural reaction for someone who's just developed something not to want to share it - unless they've been persuaded it's good too. I used to be like that with the things I made, before I came to Linux, but only today I've released my first GPL'd thingy (it's in my sig).
It was still a bit of a decicion, though, despite everything - "Am I really sure I want to share this with everybody?"
