A mate of mine is gravitating to USA for around a month, and wants to stay connected via his Nokia 8310 phone, but I think that it is not able to handle the dodgy tri-band mobile phone network mess that is USA.

What phone plans do people tend to get in USA when traveling throughout USA/Canada and get good coverage and good services.

In most other places, Singapore, Malayisa, UK, Aust, NZ the humble pre-paid sim-card is king.

What is the deal with USA? What is popular. Do we need to buy a tri-band at the air-port or rent a phone there. Is there a good website that goes through the pro's and con's of the phone network over there?

I did a bit of googling, and only found sites that try to sell you a phone, or rent one to you with discounted courier charges being offered to any where in the world. Sounds a bit much to me.

iv never heard of something like that here in America, all i know about cell phones are
1) they literally cook your brain
2) theres always a catch if someone is trying to sell you what looks like a good deal

so id say just 4get the cell phone, as almost every cell plan in America gots some hidden charges they conveniently leave out when they tell you about it

and if a sales man ever says "this is a good deal" he really means "more money for me, stupid person, ill take all their money from these 666 hidden charges!"
