Transparent PNGs show up as transparent in Firefox - opaque in IE?
Has anybody else noticed this? I did today. I created a transparent PNG image (I really hate having to use GIFs) and the file showed up as transparent in Firefox, but opaque with a white bg in IE6.
By the way, I created the PNG in GIMP. |
i have had similar transparency issues with PNGs befor but saved as a GIF and they work fine but mine was created using adobe photoshop 7
just out of intrest why dont you like GIFs? |
IE doesn't support PNG, but GIF has/had lame patent issues (for those in the US only?).

are right hadent heard about that with the gifs
|
I have tried both GIF and PNGs. By the way, does anybody know which format compresses the file better?
For me, I got about the same file size for both for the same image. But I think that PNGs have more options during a save than a GIF. |

Good article and thanks for the link.
I am not a big IE user anyway, but the transparency issue (which I was not aware of till now) still sticks out like a sore thumb. |
harishanker,
do you host a website with a picture of sun with solar flares that employs this? i LOVE the little blurb about changing to Firefox to see the image correctly. very nice touch ;-) -present -ps i think we emailed recently re: wine support for a program. |
