Toshiba Satellite A70 Randomly Shuts Down

Hey I'm a newbie here and i am fairly computer illiterate, however i have a problem on my hands with my Toshiba Satellite A70 notebook computer and in desperate need of help. I am heading back to school in less than two weeks and recently my computer has taken up the problem of randomly shuting off during use. It mustly shuts off when it is active, not when it is just sitting there with the screensaver on. Also it mostly shuts of when it is on AC power as opposed to battery. After looking at posts on this website and similar ones I thought it was most likely an overheating problem. I took it to a microcenter near me and the guy said he was almost certain that was not the case. He seemed to think that I needed to reformat my system. However, I also noticed that people change the BIOS on their computers and this helped remedy the problem. I would like to look into this BIOS alternative b4 hawking my entire system. So to make this long story slightly shorter, what are BIOS? how do i change my BIOS? and what should i change my BIOS to?

Any help would be much appreciated, thank you.

You'll have to send it in repairs, as this is a known problem with them. Go to the store where you bought it from or call Toshiba support line to find out more.
