Here is what Ocasio-Cortez, incoming 14th District, New York, Democrat, stated:

“[We] can use the transition to 100 percent renewable energy as the vehicle to truly deliver and establish economic, social and racial justice in the United State of America,” Ocasio-Cortez said during the event.

We certainly have had more than a deserved share of political rhetoric as well as non sequitur speculation and a nearly endless parade of "experts" out of their element essentially 'talkin' shit", but greencedar, you managed to combine all of those in one single post.

Why would anyone care what some SJW says about Climate? Of course she is going to translate anything and everything to her POV, agenda and benefit... what she thinks her supporters like to hear, just as it is with James Murphy on the other extreme. That's essentially what politics IS! and has zero to do with the actual evidence for or against human caused climate change. The Left sees Nazis behind every bush (no pun intended) and the Right sees Socialism. Please do explain how either one of them can hope to use any aspect of climate change to affect such massive change as you outline. Political change in the US bounces back and forth and major change is always slow, decades slow and climate change is nowhere near the Bogey Man that was 9/11 or The Cuban Missile Crisis, at the very least in voting American's minds.

Read the book Capital in the Twenty-First Century and you will see, combined with actual events and current situations in the US, and you will see that the US is officially an Oligarchy but it took several decades for this to come about. If you think any single event in one, or a handful of, election period(s) is going to reverse that trend you seriously need to open your eyes and do some serious research on politics in America.

While you're at it maybe look into serious scientific evidence on Climate Change, instead of quoting ignorant, biased politicians.

greencedar you are missing the salient point.

NO SINGLE ISSUE is sufficient to rapidly change The Establishment AND it is driven by dollars as much as votes. Whatever the main product is, Cotton, Coal, Oil, Technology... whatever, the system is resistant to change and "the fire will continue to burn on any fuel". That's what a system IS... like a balloon... you push in on one side and it simply bulges to compensate. It takes something vastly more pointed and forceful than climate change to effect drastic, rapid change..... yet. Switching to renewable, cheap sources is nowhere near that. Billions spent on flooded coastlines where something like 70% of the population lives might, but that is decades away and only if we DON'T try to curtail it while we still can.

As for your final remark

Please point to some respectable evidence for this assertion so we all know it isn't mere politically fueled speculation.

Meh. One step forward. Then kick start your motorcycle. Fill up at the station that you rely on.
Ride 1000 miles back.

That link I posted pretty much sealed up the future of carbon fuel availability.

You know how humans react since BC days when they stumble on a good personal local make life easy thing.

Edit: In case I forgot. I think global warming. Climate change. Is real. We are the cause.
There.
It is on the net.

I guess some will follow Climate change. But real life kicks the butt out of ideas from time to time.

In addition to my positive feedback logic already expressed, and multiple reasonable skeptics pointing out that increases in carbon dioxide follow rises in average temperature, and do not precede them, there's another reason I dismiss man as an agent of climate change.

I've noticed that those who most fervently believe that man is to blame for global warming are apt to also be leftists who in general want more government control of other people's lives. But those who are skeptical or outrightly dismissive of man's role are in general apt to want less government control and more freedom.

But if there really is something man can do to stave off horrific consequences, then why oh why does consensus correlate so strongly with political viewpoint?

Leftists seem to innately believe that people who disagree with them are stupid. They almost have a patent on that word. But when anyone castigates a whole group of people as stupid, you know they're wrong.

And it's not as if rejecting the claims are heartless. A lot of so-called "climate deniers" own expensive, low-altitude, at-risk property. They have a lot to lose if they're wrong, and thus incentive to believe the claims. But they don't.

Have you guys ever heard the term "Crisis Management"? I was taught that it means waiting until fires are big enough to burn your ass before you put them out instead of stopping the guy that's throwing around lighted matches. Another common term is the cliche "the Poor have poor ways" and another "the rich get richer while the poor get poorer" and cliche #1 is much of the reason for cliche #2. Poor people will buy a $20,000 Mobile Home (even in Tornado Alley) and have a $40,000 pickup in the driveway and all of them at 8-12% interest. The rich will buy several mobile homes to rent out or sell to such financially ignorant folks or if rich enough, the local bank which will foreclose on several of those a year and/or charge exorbitant late charges for those coming up short because the kids had to see a doctor, or some other unplanned expense.

Climate change is real life as well as ideas. It's just that it is harder to feel since the threat is so gradual, but it isn't wise to try to live hand-to-mouth for very long. Job #1 should be figuring out how to "store some food" for the future, for those unplanned things that always seem to pop up especially when one is least prepared. Songs are written about this. Here's an excerpt from one

It is deeply political and deeply rooted in Socialist/Fascist/Communist politics, in fact it cannot be separated from it. Marx, Stalin, Mao, Lenin, Hitler and others all were staunch environmentalists and proposed massive action for the climate/environment---so they claimed anyway. It is a method to take from one group to give to another, which always equals take from the people to give to those in control.

What a beautiful scheme they cooked up, take a natural phenomenon and profit from it...Wait until you pay a tax every time you exhale!

roky, people who don't believe that climate change is man made are rude?

Really, they are not the people doing this:
https://yournewswire.com/soros-faceb...rming-deniers/

http://thehill.com/policy/energy-env...change-deniers

Anytime a theory cannot hold up to honest debate and instead relies on fear mongering and shutting down/suppressing/censoring differing views it is no longer a theory and becomes a type of tyranny.

I am probably considered a wee bit left of center on many social issues, though I disagree with that since I am closer to Libertarian (at least what that meant about 30 years ago, but onb Legal and Financial platforms I'm generally further to the right than a bicycle on the Autobahn, but all of that has absolutely nothing to do with my assessment of Climate Change. That is entirely Scientific and it saddens me that what is passing for Conservatives these days seems to be hard liners acting like marionettes spouting one inane, unquestioned party line after another without one shred of actual evidence NOT strictly from a political source.

I can only hope that people that happen on this thread get a general view of the politically driven on both sides and can compare that to those that are not politically driven and get a feel for why this issue is so controversial when it really should be simple.

To those of you who affiliate strongly EITHER on the so-called Left or the so-called Right who want to advertise your ignorance go right ahead as I don't truck in censorship. YOU are responsible as to how you are seen in this community and I will keep offering up actual scientific evidence in response to every stupid puppet show act that appears here jumping at shadows.

We now have at least three people posting political hogwash that the US is in danger of becoming Socialist if anyone even looks at the evidence for Human Caused Climate Change let alone determines it is real and for you guys I offer you this....

Look up Standard Oil. Here's an excerpt from Wikipedia

Quote:
Originally Posted by Wikipedia - Standard Oil
Standard Oil Co. Inc. was an American oil producing, transporting, refining, and marketing company. Established in 1870 by John D. Rockefeller and Henry Flagler as a corporation in Ohio, it was the largest oil refinery in the world of its time.[7] Its history as one of the world's first and largest multinational corporations ended in 1911, when the United States Supreme Court, in a landmark case, ruled that Standard Oil was an illegal monopoly.

Standard Oil dominated the oil products market initially through horizontal integration in the refining sector, then, in later years vertical integration; the company was an innovator in the development of the business trust. The Standard Oil trust streamlined production and logistics, lowered costs, and undercut competitors. "Trust-busting" critics accused Standard Oil of using aggressive pricing to destroy competitors and form a monopoly that threatened other businesses.

Rockefeller ran the company as its chairman, until his retirement in 1897. He remained the major shareholder, and in 1911, with the dissolution of the Standard Oil trust into 34 smaller companies, Rockefeller became the richest man in the world, as the initial income of these individual enterprises proved to be much bigger than that of a single larger company. Its successors such as ExxonMobil or Chevron are still among the companies with the largest income worldwide
Read those last few sentences again and then consider that at in the late 1800s there were hundreds of oil companies of similar size until Standard Oil began to buy them up or crush them up and 3 of the Top 10 Oil production earners in the US for 2018 are STILL under that Standard Oil flag, namely what is now Exxon-Mobil (even that name should demonstrate something telling) Chevron and Conoco-Phillips together earning in 2018 some $700 BILLION in that one year. Those Top 3 made more than all 7 of the remaining contenders combined by over 30%. Their political clout is immense and you need to ask yourself just how long you suppose it would take a handful of Renewable Energy Companies to even match that power BEFORE you can even imagine any kind of political takeover in your worst nightmares. It is certainly not likely to be anytime soon no matter what occurs in perception if Climate Change.

If, after looking at the historical facts, that ever since Richard Nixon the US has slowly drifted more toward the Right (one only has to look at tax levels for the very rich to know that is true but the Supreme Court is another good indicator) you still think that mere reaction to Climate Change will throw this country headlong into Socialism, it is my regarded opinion that you are misinformed, ignorant or delusional or all three. It ain't gonna happen. Period. Those who have the kind of wealth and power of Big Oil, which vastly exceeds most nations in the world, are well-experienced in keeping their wealth and position. Last year the Koch Brothers decided they no longer even need to hide their political clout and now openly boast about crushing any politician at every level, not just Federal, with anything remotely positive in their platform about Climate Change

So now I'm adding History to Science and if you want to try to prove my views inaccurate please do so in those fields since spouting political rhetoric only makes you look foolish, bought and paid for, in this area. My table. My rules. Five card stud and nothing is trump... or something like that
