I wonder how many persons won't get the joke because of this, for instance:

I went to the vet's today to pick up some special catfood for crystallizing cat and asked the receptionist whether she's seen the paper; that I thought most folks won't get Dilbert. She asked why, so I described the strip.

She said, "Lennox, aren't they the air conditioner people?" (No.) "Oh, I know, they make china and crystal." (er, No.)

The prosecution rests.

I read Dilbert because I subscribe to my local paper (I believe in supporting my local paper, so long as it is above yellow journalism--we need honest journalism and reporters need to eat) and it's on the comics page.

Otherwise, I wouldn't read it; it went stale a long time ago.

What I wondered is, why would Scott Adams pick a punch line that 90% or more of his readership likely wouldn't get? I'm curious to see whether there is a story line for the week.

I tend to go to "New" when I visit this site and I noticed this had been posted in Slackware after I saw this thread.
I think, perhaps, they add Dilbert to your local paper as a concession to the growing "geek" crowd (it is cool to be a "geek" nowadays, though few are true geeks) and I think Scott Adams writes for geeks.

Jefro, does RH charge for updates? I didn't think they did.

I can easily see it as a slap against consultants. I know that most are legit, but, it's like lawyers (and I must say the few lawyers I've had to use over the years have been skilled and of integrity)--there are enough charlatans to make the jokes seem true.

Frankly, I think Dilbert is more about life in large organizations than it is about tech. Anyone who has ever worked in CubeWorld can relate to the incompetent boss, the greedy CEO, the lazy, prickly, and selfish coworkers, etc. The tech is just background.

According to the website, it's in >2,000 papers in 70 countries.

The area I'm in is hardly a Silicon Valley, unless you have a security clearance (it's home to the largest military complex in the world).
