Is there any way of removing the boilerplate that Apple adds to people's e-mails?
And more generally, does no one protest Apple's parasitizing their messages for free advertising?

I don't use an iPhone, but base on my experience with email clients, look in the settings for a way to configure your signature.

Short answer: Search Settings for Signature...

Longer answer: Settings --> Mail --> Signature
Select All Accounts or Per Account, as appropriate.
Set the signature to what you want...or nothing.

There's really nothing to protest. You have complete control of the sigs on your iPhone. Easy.

PS. Same changes for your iPad.

"Protest" was too strong—"irritated by" would have been better.
A friend gave us an iPhone recently, so we've been playing with it in a desultory manner.
For Apple to include a default signature I guess is hardly surprising, but I would b curious to know how many people never think of changing it.
Admittedly my reluctance to wear clothing with gaudy brand-names borders on the obsessive!

well if it didn't go beyond that i wouldn't see any problem with it.

fwiw, k-9 mail, a foss email client for android, also defaults to a self-advertising signature.
but it can be changed in the preferences, so what.

In answer to your question, everyone I know with an iPhone has changed or removed the default sig...that's around 20 people.
Certainly agree with you about brand-name clothing. I'm not only reluctant, I simply refuse to wear it. If they want me to wear advertising for their company, they should pay me...or at least give me the clothes ;)
