Arrow The world's most powerful Ubuntu laptop

I was reading something on some Linux News site and then I saw it;
The world's most powerful Ubuntu laptop.

What I maybe like the most is that Ubuntu logo on the keyboard.
And I wouldn't mind to be the owner! Heh, but I find it a little too expensive for me at the moment.

What do you think about the price?

A 15.6" display @ 1920x1080? Wouldn't that make text hard to read (tiny)?

Other than that, that is an awesome lappy.

By the price, I'm assuming you mean with the base specs? Dunno...mine was just under $900, but the specs aren't quite as high as that one's (GeForce 310M GPU w/ 512 MiB VRAM as opposed to the GTX 460M w/ 1.5GiB VRAM, Core i5 430M vs. 460M, and I think the memory clock is different).

...and, it was a sort of "graduation present" from my mom, so I didn't actually use my own money...

Actually, I think it would be better if that key were labeled "Spr" or had a diamond or something else generic on it. IMHO putting the logo of any specific company/operating system is annoying. Sometimes I wish I could take off/rub out/do something to get rid of the Windows logo on my laptop's keyboard...

With all the highest specs chosen, it comes to just under £2000. So, if anybody's wondering what to buy me for Christmas...

Well resolution on my laptop is 1280x800 and I can tell you that text isn't tiny! LOL I hope you understand me. And btw, there's always an option to increase font size, but that would not be necessary unless person needs it because of visual impairment or similar.

About the "key", well I'm sick of that Winblow$ key, I'm sick of Winblow$ and M$, so when I see a key of a Linux distro such as Ubuntu it makes me happy. And I say why not? I wish there are openSUSE keys, Arch keys etc. etc.

@brianL

Well, my dear Brian, I'll buy it for you... but I'll wipe the hard drive and install openSUSE and then I'll encrypt (as root) all the boot files and MBR and make it so that you can't install anything else! How's that sound?

AFAIK mine's display is also a 15.6", but its resolution is 1366x768. I'm just thinking that since the resolution is higher on a display of the same size, it'd make text harder to read when the display is being run at its native resolution.

Why would you build a laptop @ that base price. When you can have a desktop with the same base stats at HALF the price.

Agreed. You can get 6-core AMD processors for even less than half that price that do more than those quad-core Core i7s. You could also get video cards (VERY high-end ones that AREN'T integrated, possibly SLI or CrossFire as well) and add them to the cost of the motherboard and CPU, which would barely be half the price of that laptop. And if you install Linux instead of Windoze, you've saved $399 that could have been added to the co$t plus eliminated any vendor-installed trialware, malware, spyware, scareware, rootkits, keyloggers, Trojan horses, botnets, and other propri€tary $oftware that could have caused you plenty of headaches.

Thanks, Alan. I haven't tried OpenSuse for a while.

Desktops are a bit harder to carry around.

Yes, it's that openSUSE is a really great distribution and community and lately it's been goin' through some really important changes, but in the right direction, that is. No matter what, I just think that it doesn't get the respect that it should. That's all there is about it.

As many times before, your wisdom sums it up nicely!
