Thumbs down The wolf hunt is on in Wisconsin...

Dogs lifespans are pretty short so if you breed them for 100 years you can make quite the impact.

So, the debate to me, would you shoot stray dogs or your own?

Hunters of course (being a bigger part of the gun problem) probably think otherwise?

Here's some context: https://earthjustice.org/cases/2021/...enge-wolf-hunt

(Note: I do not oppose or espouse the views of the organization that posted this story. It was merely near the top of the links in my web search and seemed to be the most informative.)

Now my personal opinion: I wouldn't shoot a stray dog unless it was a verified threat. (Actually, I couldn't shoot anything. I no longer have a firearm, because I no longer have a back yard where I can safely plunk tin cans, but I'm a darned good shot when I'm in practice.)

I oppose the culling of wolves. They have a role in the ecosystem, and I think that they have an unjustifiably bad reputation thanks to Mother Goose, Sergei Prokofiev, and their accomplices.

Thanks for the link* Frankbell.

I listen to MPR, e.g: https://www.mprnews.org/story/2021/1...all-wolf-quota &c
so thought I'd put it out there.

Not just for me and my beliefs: guns, wolves especially elephants are likely nonexistent debates in 100s or 1000s of years?

I have a feeling I know where this thread could end up, assuming it doesn't just die off quickly... in my view such threads are "too off topic"...

Wolves certainly don't need culling and this is obviously not a cull but a blood sport, it's purely for "entertainment". That much is clear.

Any arguments regarding Wolves being a danger to humans is also a weak attempt at justification - the biggest annual killer of humans is always mosquitoes, followed by other humans - both in the hundreds of thousands. Then there is a big drop to snakes and domestic dogs, which are in the low tens of thousands...

Wolves (along with sharks) don't even register on the scale by comparison. They're always down in the <= 10 statistics.

Target practice, to me sounds like believing in ghosts? There's: video games, pellet guns and* people don't kill people; people like guns?

Ranchers out here string up dead coyotes along barb wire fencing as a warning sign.

Wolves don't roam out here. If you aint quick or clever out here in the desert. You are likely to get eaten.

That is why we don't have bears either. Bear Tacos.

I'm not a hunter, but I grew up with hunters. I got no problem with hunters who eat what they kill. Indeed, I used to have a neighbor who hunted deer and would give me the occasional bit of venison, and I enjoyed every bite.

I do have a problem with killing for the sake of killing.

But that's just me.

No, it's not just you. A lot of people see killing for fun as pathological. Certainly no wolf does such things.

I like meat but that's just the times we live in? I know my body well enough, that it does better without most meats.

Too many find it hard to live in the dangerous jungle so they're chopping them down and other places have shiny things? Ghettos are fine tho! At the rate we're evolving, human multiplication; I'd guess the only meat left will be "live stock" and bugs? There's a level of fascism everywhere, because of the lack of education?

All planets wither, some sooner than others... 👻

I will have a lot less objection to the hunting of wolves once the wolves can shoot back!

That seems like it needs more explanation. Is there any reason to shoot the stray dogs? For example is there any pay for it? Or what is the reason? But sure if there's a good reason and it's worth the time and I'm not too busy etc...

And I guess if my dog needing putting down, I would shoot it, sure. Certainly better than slitting its throat or going thru the hassle of buying poison.

Ever had slow cooked BBQ wolf ribs? Delicious, but of course depends a lot on the sauce.

Another good way is is to soak the meat in whiskey for about a week then just pan fry pieces.

Wolf fur makes a great parka too....
