The thing that infuriates me most about this issue is the euphemisms.
For example: "illegal immigrant." That actually means: slave. Don't think that we've stopped resorting to slavery to gather our crops – we just changed crops. Furthermore, someone who is made to constantly be in fear of Federales won't object to anything that you tell him to do. "Swim in that tank of insecticide? ¡Si!"
We have other euphemisms, too, like: "Guest Worker.™"
We also have millions of non-immigrants, especially in I.T. These people will never have an opportunity to become citizens, even if they want to. They will be held in conditions of indentured servitude, in strict violation of the 13th Amendment. (Their "indenture" is called, "sponsorship.")
We have euphemisms to refer to them, too: "The Best and the Brightest.™"
This highly-illegal situation is never going to be cured until it is called by its name(s).
Many people do not know that there was very bitter opposition to the wording of the 13th Amendment by industrialists, who recognized in it the end of "merely a pesky inconvenience to" their preferred form of labor relations.
As I've said before, "21st Century businesses are engaged in labor practices that were outlawed in the 19th."
Since the 80's "The Wall" has been to me Pink Floyd's superior album.
Now "The Wall' is this proposed abomination along our border with Mexico.
The way things are going with the new crew in Washington, after just a week, "The Wall" won't be necessary to keep people out. This country (the US) is on a course to be a very unpleasant place to live, and instead, "The Wall" will provide the same security the Berlin Wall did for East Berliners. Keeping people in.
