Actually I didn't expect you would address that issue here. Instead I simply hoped to point out what seems to be an inconsistent set of "rules of engagement" and have you wonder for yourself why this is so and the manner of contradictions that can engender even within a single individual.

But, is it actually the future of diplomatic discourse?
As of today I have read the speech in it's entirety four times and watched 3 videos of the delivery and nearly a dozen reviews/critiques from all over the world and I must sday I don't come away with anything at all like the above conclusion. The speech on the whole was not like Mr. Trump and could have easily been delivered by any American president since WWII, whether Democrat or Republican. I think the reason this was so is that the speech was written by Stephen Miller, and read off a teleprompter (with just a very few asides to Trump's base) designed to be far wider in scope, even quite liberal, as is required when given before the United Nations of the world.

How and why you see it as some unique departure from Business As Usual I truly don't understand. I know his supporters will likely recoil in horror from such a statement but some 90% of that speech could have been delivered by Obama exactly because it is so general and upholds the same friends and enemies of all of the 21st century so far and much of the 20th. There is "nothing new under the Sun" here.

Enorbet, good friend, everyone around here knows my opinion of US Government cover stories. But, that's not the OP topic here.

Probably so, sundialsvcs, but there is a parallel.

When one of the wealthiest CEOs in the US who is something of a Pop Star, known for his bellicose and vindictive manner becomes a Republican President then suddenly favorably mentions Harry Truman, a Democrat, 3 times in a single speech and holds up "We the People" flags for reverence I can't help but check my nether regions to see if any smoke is leaking from my butt from the excessive quantities blown there. More to the point it makes me wonder how Mr. Trump will reconcile his US image and his World image as they are quite different. Will the real Donald please stand up?

When an LQ member who appears intelligent, educated and articulate and who generally promotes a conciliatory perspective in a largely even-weighted manner also displays extreme, even unreasoning from some POVs, skepticism, especially regarding politics and government, waxes rosy even claiming a revolutionary uniqueness for a very conventional speech from a highly controversial government official, I can't help but at least try to reconcile and make sense of the underlying agenda.

I feel confidant several others here do as well in trying to understand your position on President Trump as it is part and parcel of the principles that define you.

Anyway I have no problem dropping this aspect of the conversation but recognize that it is an "elephant in the room" whether we mention it or not.

Arrow Speaking of parallel:

Stephen Miller* is not quite doing the same non-job as the rest of them... even if a fired up young mind with plans to change the world, long-run,,, a high paying "job" not the popularity yous make it!

Only ever vote on policies(\some actual jobs that need doing ) not people(\who may or not do their "job" DEPENDING ON POLICY! )!

Well, I think it was exactly what you would expect from the "donald". If you believe North Korea/Mr Kim/Little Rocket Man, it was very insulting combine it with Twitter, who needs the mainstream media to declare war! I guess they wanted to keep their shoes on!

Let's think of what Trump would say behind closed doors: "I'm a racist prick who was born into the same stupidity as any but followed the path """justly,""" kiss a flag b!tches!

It's probably a serious error ... most-certainly encouraged by the well-honed practices of Media in their appointed roles as instruments of propaganda, to in this way typecast a United States President, even if you profess not to understand him.

"racist prick?" ... "stupidity?" ... "kiss the flag" ... "b*tches(?!?!)"

One, Two, Three, Four.™ Four propaganda stereotypes. Since when has the real world, that we all actually live in, ever been so cut-and-dry? Since when, also, has any real-world decision been "a non-decision?"

Be careful, friend: these cats are experts in "Crowd Psychology," and you just might not realize that they are even there. Neither might you [even think to ...] recognize their insidious influence upon thoughts that you thought were actually "yours!"

I just have to ask if you actually think nations are that homogeneous and simplistic? Is the nation you call home so? It would be as if someone said that the UK still holds a grudge for losing a colony. Do you think that's at all accurate?

i'm sure this remark was ironical.

no, of course they're NOT any of that, but yes, the usa often seem to portray & perceive themselves in that way.
maybe it's just more visible from the outside.

or, as i said before, the "problems" they claim to rush and help with (for whatever misguided sense of entitlement), have been at least co-created by the USA in the first place.
