and defenetely stay away from press reviews. they tent to get distracted by graphics and non-linear looking linear game play (anyone remember The Thing, gaming press loved it).

Well, the solution, that's what I care about. In this case removing the extremists, who are in reality just ads by either M$ or $ony or the game manufacturer for their product ... is a very good idea, lets hope they don't change tactics and decide to become more moderate.

I also NEVER EVER EVER rate a game 0 or 10, it's usually something more in the 4-8 range, you know ... it's just human. So to eliminate the non-human, just limit the bounds.

I have decided to only play Linux-native games in 2010. If this means I will play Hexen, Heretic, Quake, Doom3, so be it. GTA4 was the last straw - They HAD to go the Microsoft route - which precludes Linux. Sorry if I hijacked this thread.

Nothing wrong with Hexen Heretic and Doom. Can't say the same about Quake. To me that always felt like an incomplete game. The JDOOM project is great, and seeing Doom, Heretic, and Hexen with updated graphics makes it worthwhile. I remember the times I used to play Doom deathmatches with a friend with a dialup connection. Those were the days. One of use would call each other's computer up and play for hours. Good times.

Just so you know, Neverwinter Nights has Linux binaries as an extra download and Unreal Tournament 2004 had it on the DVD it self. I'm sure there are more commercial games out there... As a side note, if you like casual games, Neverball and "Blob Wars : Metal Blob Solid" were worth a look. trackballs could have been funner if it supported controllers

If you want a good game for the PS3 try Demon's Souls, it's part rogue-like, part RPG, part Chakan. I know many people say it's impossible, but it's not, in fact it's not at all hard if you know what to do (check a walkthrough if you have trouble). I like it because it's kinda like a 3D rogue-like or it has some aspects of rogue-like games incorporated in it, for example if you die in a level, you have to start over, well that makes you plan things out and be more careful, besides in a rogue-like you die that's it. If you like button-mashers tho, don't pick it because you will fail. You have to play it smart, for guile is indeed a warrior's most important asset. If you want my recommendation for an easy character to play with, choose Royalty, you have no idea how much power a simple ring holds.
