i ran longhorn on a 1ghz p3 192mb ram pci radeon 7000 just fine, i even got DWM(DCE) working with the spiffy transparent window borders. with dwm disabled, its not much slower than xp, not really noticable and keep in mind, there is a giant memory leak ATM too.

I think the requirements also said something about developers, and I don't think that they really apply to the random person who just wants to try out the latest & greatest.

On this page at MSDN, the end user requirements are stated:
Quote:
Here are the requirements that MSDN subscribers received with the PDC Longhorn.
End User Desktop Minimum System Requirements. Pentium III 800 MHz or equivalent. 256 MB RAM. Graphics: GPU: Dx7 support. Display: Minimum resolution of 1024x768, at 32 bits per pixel. VRAM: 32MB at minimum resolution.
One is right in noticing that this is for the pre-alpha versions, but msft usually tries to get developers to use average consumer boxes for testing so that they can develop something that works for the consumer when finished. Go to the source.
