Hazel I certainly agree and likewise respect Carl Sagan as an uncommonly graceful and tolerant man (he is one of my heroes), but then he came up in an age where Science commanded great respect and in a field, Astronomy and Cosmology, that really has been rather immune from superstitious claptrap since well before 1900. Dawkins, OTOH, continually faces superstition, and dogmatic idiocy in his field and has lived through times where irrational skepticism has proliferated undermining and disrespecting the value of Science as a whole including some of it's greatest achievements, and much of that is based on organized religion. The really infuriating part added on is that all the while much of religion attacks or poo-poo's Science, it also attempts to borrow efficacy from it by attempting to appear scientific - ie: "Creation" rebranded as "Intelligent Design" pushed to be taught alongside Evolution in Science classes. IOW, Sagan may have foreseen it but Dawkins has had to live through it. I don't think before widespread internet Sagan had to contend with the likes of Flat Earthers and the equivalent of Evolution Deniers. Decades of dealing with willful stupidity and ignorance has a way of wearing one's patience and tolerance rather thin.

Again, if you watched that video did you see ranting or animus toward spirituality or just dogmatic organized ignorance? I frankly didn't witness some of the more arrogant stances he seems to sometimes fall into in debating platforms. He seemed quite reasonable to me in that video.

With so many opinions in the world we're all stubborn, what religions or gods to choose is an opinion... then there's the few facts!

California* and its religious* populations* are concentrating* Salvia Divinorum... now that can definitely have you talking to some gods, if that's the opinions you chose‽

Again, disclaimer: if you've heard about this leaf and try smoking it, have a sober-spotter so you don't try to fly, kill the infidels or something like that!

On average, if you're born into science you grow up learning to question everything... in religion you grow up learning to be rigid and stubborn‽

My opinions are just religions though...
