@ sundialsvcs - There seems to be some confusion here. While I did and always will name names if it seems important to the point, and in this case I deemed it was, I didn't bring up the issue. It seems you were somewhat offended by my recounting a documented fact while apparently NOT offended by scurrilous, undocumented, non-factual accusations directed toward non-believers, who make up over 60% of this thread but to which you don't belong, and moderators. I suppose it's about "whose Ox is being gored", eh? Nothing I recounted was or is untrue. I make no apologies for the truth, especially when in defense of the innocent.
The tag "virtue" is grossly misplaced... poke the emoji's eyes out so it can be like the religious.
Don't complain Jam. Read again. In what phrase the word was applied to? The christians use that word "virtue". Atheist use "instinct". Would your generosity yet disallow that?

Aye ... nothing untrue ... but maybe we should leave skeletons in closets and try to restart this thread? To reposition it, so as to once again invite the "lively debate" of others?
(Wince...) "scurrilous, undocumented, non-factual" ... oh my! Yeah, I understand your point of view (I think ...) completely, and I agree entirely that it rather sucks to be "the owner of The Wrong Ox."
However: part of the intrinsic difficulty about any discussion of (Western ...) religion is that you are dealing with "prophets, missionaries, and proselytes." All of whom are the sort of people who are both utterly convinced of their point of view and likewise convinced that you are going to Hell (and, wouldn't you just hurry up and go there?). Diplomacy is not part of the game-plan here. Therefore, neither is "discussion." Still, in a forum like this one, "we endeavor to discuss."
"The truth." "The innocent." Both of these are (weight = 1.0) words. I do not oppose this viewpoint, neither you, even as I observe it. These are hard, polar words that invite no quarter.
And let us merely thank the moderators for their diplomatic understanding as we self-correct this forum for its next four hundred pages.
If you read it like your parents did "their" bibles, disproved! I know it sucks being a rat in a maze with no cheese but trust me is better than eternity... and\or.
Delete this thread? It is a living document as well as an actual (and interesting) poll. Why delete it? or do you mean "sweep it under the rug" because you find it "unseemly"? If nothing else this thread, through a multitude of different points of view, displays what people really think, as well as what they will resort to, when they feel some sense of anonymity or feel no fear of damaging reprisal. Furthermore it defines the polar positions of Critical Thinking and Blind Faith and demonstrates the difficulties when attempting to blend the two. There is also considerable knowledge of History contained within. Most forums couldn't be paid enough to host such a controversial topic. I am frankly very proud that LQN let it happen and continue to support lively but proper discussion as a complete whole. I wouldn't change a single thing let alone delete it.
Oh yeah and "Heaven Bound" is so utterly biased as to be actually laughable, if I thought it was serious, when compared to the balance in this thread.

last time I looked there were three of them
they largely take a hands-off approach
so on the rare occasion when they do wave a red flag
you can be certain that a fair amount of heat and/or stupidity is being generated
they probably spend their day rolling their eyes at some of the stuff in here
