NO DISCOURIGING! I'M FED UP WITH IT.
I DON'T CARE OF YOUR OPINION IF IT'S NOT SIMILAR TO MINE."
It has to be great working in a project with you then. It would be very democratic by the looks of it: It's either your way or the high way . Ah kids...
kornerr, you need a dose of reality before you start out doing serious things like games programming. If you're just beginning to learn OpenGL, then this topic is too, too *premature* to say the least. First learn to programming a spinning cube...
It's like you're having trouble just walking and you want to become the next 100m world champion in Athletics?????
Why not take alll the practical suggestions and positives from this thread instead of ranting like "Mommy, nobody wants to help me!!"
First of all, NOBODY, and I mean NOBODY here cares about who you are or what your goals are. The proof of the pudding is in the eating, son and you need to show us SOMETHING, *anything* to convince us that you're a serious game developer.
You web page is amateurish to say the least, brother... I've been trying to be as positive as possible, but your reactions have been kiddish, to say the least. First of all get yourself a serious web host instead of putting up a home page on Geocities. Frankly speaking it doesn't inspire any confidence,..
You're going to develop a game?? Don't make me laugh, son. Learn maturity before you want to develop a game... even with the best skills in the world, you won't get far with that attitude...
I know where you're coming from and why you're so frustrated. But I can tell you, nobody will come forward to help you unless you show us *some* proof that you're really serious.
Sorry to sound harsh, but you really need something to bring you down to earth.
heh ehe, good ol' hari and X coming to the depressing end of a kid with spirit. I think your idea is great, perhaps not coding our own engine, (BTW, Quake III was just GPL'd) but making an RPG would be excellent. And are we talking MMO or just single player. I play many instruments, write music, and would be delighted to do sound effects soundtrack etc. Also I have done texturing, and like to do GIMPing art. I have a story, but I dunno is it'd make a very good RPG.....

I think this is the start of a good RPG already. A young kid called Korner with a strong spirit and a dream of being greater than the others lived on the LQ.org village. He had the guts, but couldn't use bows, swords or magic. He also can't swin, jump well or run very fast.
One day, Korner went to the local INN and told his friends that he wanted to join the Army of King Torvalds IV and become "the best soldier ever". Most of them laughed at him, including MegaX and Hari, two "bullies" living also at LQ.org village. A few, however, still believed on him, as the young Billy. Billy and Korner decided to start a jorney the next day to King Torvalds IV academy to become soldiers.
Later that day, the King Torvalds IV's castle is attacked and nearly destroyed by the evil "Gates". King Torvalds IV is kept as prisioner by Gates, while his army kept marching toward LQ.org village. One of the children saw they approaching the village and told the others. MegaX, Hari, Billy and Korner team up to try to protect LQ.org village, but they lost the battle. What else could a bunch of kids, women and unarmed men do against a rich, closed-source army as Gates?. Still, MegaX, Hari, Korner and Billy managed to scape alive, while others died in battle or became slaves of the evil "Gates", including their parents and the LQ.org leader, Jeremy, forced to use Win98 First Edition and Office 97.
Their only hope now was to ask for help in a very far away place called LinuxForums.org, a very mean village who banned a lot of citizens for no apparent reasons, but that have helped King Torvalds IV on the past during the Open Source Wars...

Other tips: Most of the RPG's out there uses "classes" and or "races". That is getting old. Try to use distributions to define both classes and races. It would be much cooler and we should feel right at home, eg:
- Drakes (from Mandrake): Very friendly warriors. Usually Drakes are very big warriors, making them too slow. Still, they are good with big weapons as Hammers and Axes and are easy to control.
- Debianos (From Debian): Truly believers of Freedom. Fast Warriors, good with light weight weapons as Katana. They make excellent stealth warriors thanks to their light-weight armors and speed. Not as easy to control as Drakes.
What ya think?

Lemme guess ; "cutlery" is not one of your fields of expertise , right?
A "Katana" (At least : What a lot of people call a "katana") is anything BUT "Light" ;
Unless the wielder is specifically trained for a very prolonged time in its use , that iron shod is actually a pretty clumsy bit of steel.
Pretty heavy too , by the way.
And another correction : "Katana" is nothing but the Japanese word for "Sword".
What most people refer to as a "Katana" is either a Ninja-To (The straight single-edged blade) or a Bushido-do (the slightly curved single-edged one)
kornerr , dont pay attention to those under-aged senior citizen who thought that being "realistic" and "experiencing" things seniority is something to be proud of for whatever sake they managed to come up with , remember, theres always a point when things realistic stop being realistic and things in their seniority stop being in the seniority , you lot are the younger ones , definately are and would be infront of everybody right now or in the future , whether we the "rotten" one like it or not , move on , dont pay "all" attention to the old world , carries your spirit over to every aspect of human society , not only free software , only pay attention to those who are willing to help you with what you are looking for or those who are willing to move along with you with the same spirit ...
Megaman X, your more like kid: you keep on posting useless for me messages making OFF-TOP
Instead of writing "funny" stories you could help me with the plot details...
And all of you who know differencies among weapons, and weapons itself.
What was wrong with my plot?. It could be unique, seriously. When they made a game where you raced as a Penguin in OpenGL (TuxRacer), I'm pretty sure peoples laughed at the creator, but look where it is now: A Boxed version is available for purchasing and it's a very good game, really. I'd stick with my plot if I was you, it has depth and it's original and lots of room to expand and improve...
Now, if you did not like the plot, that's another story...
