The bio bug. What is it?

Quote:

Once there was a little nerd who loved to read your mail,
And then yank back the i-access times to get hackers off his tail,
And once as he finished reading from the secretary's spool,
He wrote a rude rejection to her boyfriend (how uncool!)
And this as delivermail did work and he ran his backfstat,
He heard an awful crackling like rat fritters in hot fat,
And hard errors brought the system down 'fore he could even shout!
And the bio bug'll bring yours down too, ef you don't watch out!
And once they was a little flake who'd prowl through the uulog,
And when he went to his blit that night to play at being god,
The ops all heard him holler, and they to the console dashed,
But when they did a ps -ut they found the system crashed!
Oh, the wizards adb'd the dumps and did the system trace,
And worked on the file system 'til the disk head was hot paste,
But all they ever found was this: "panic: never doubt",
And the bio bug'll crash your box too, ef you don't watch out!
When the day is done and the moon comes out,
And you hear the printer whining and the rk's seems to count,
When the other desks are empty and their terminals glassy grey,
And the load is only 1.6 and you wonder if it'll stay,
You must mind the file protections and not snoop around,
Or the bio bug'll getcha and bring the system down!

Could you tell me what this bio bug can possibly be? What is (or was) a bio bug? Of course we all know the meaning of 'bug' in the IT jargon.

I rarely exude rudeness, but this is the stupidest thing I've read in quite a bit. You seem to be serious about a joke story. No need to clarify, I just had to say it and now I'm moving on.

You say you rarely exude rudeness but I think your post is extremely impolite, honestly. I wonder if it would make sense to report it to the mods, given you are one of them. Perhaps a direct email to Jeremy would do.

I'll agree it was very much so. You also may certainly report.

My point here in more polite form is that you seem to be seriously taking a "story" as something serious.

Because that quote, has no reference whatsoever offered, it very much appears to be a joke. A intentionally humorous story. It's not for me to pore the web to find the reference for it, if you wished to discuss it you probably should've cited from where you found it.

Instead I get the strong impression by your question that you are entirely serious with wishing to know as to whether or not this bio bug is something you should consider to be worrisome.

Or were you merely sharing a humorous story and wondering what people think about it?

stf92 10-23-2020 01:33 PM

Intentionally humorous it certainly is but it is not just a story but poetry. And all I aimed at was to make sense of the poem. On the other hand I don't see any need for having specified the source. What can know from where it is add to help elucidate my question? Of course now you say it I feel [oblidged] to specify the source. In slackware every time you log into a terminal or console you'll find some quote like the one above. Some times a source is specified, sometimes it is not. In our case the was no source.

So, instead of (unsuccessfully) reporting your post, I did pressed the report button but only to ask for the thread to be moved to the slackware subforum, where I think it shall find a more favorable reception, these people being familiarized with such a kind of messages.

It is entirely reasonable after reading the strange poem to wonder what the subject of the piece is.

A reference to where it came from is useful context, but the lack of this does not invalidate the question and certainly doesn't justify post #2.

I suspect other posters in General will find it intriguing, and there isn't a need for the thread to be moved.

Probably the author was confused and failed to spell "bios bug".

I think you're going to have a hard time with that; it's basically tech-themed nonsense verse.

That I live to see the day when rtmistler writes something like this!
Praise be!
