I worked out why I was having problems,and the answer was a typo on my part.
I spelt overide instead of override in the new useragent string.

Thanks to Repo for pointing me in the right direction.

For the value use

Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux x86_64; rv:2.0b9) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/4.0b9/ Slackware Linux
replace Slackware Linux with your distro
You need to disable or remove the useragent switcher in FF
