Testing Site Bandwidth

I have a new website and webhost. The day I signed up for the hosting, the hosts site, as well as my own, was nice and speedy. Ever since, though, it has been less than ideal. Is there a good way to test the available bandwidth from a particular website. I know there are a ton of "bandwidth" meters out there which test the speed of your own computers access to the net, but I am looking for something that will measure the speed of a website. Does such a tool exist?

The best tool to use is apache benchmark "ab" that comes with apache. Only use this if you are connecting to a dedicated server. Running this against a shared host is probably against your providers AUP.
