Staying awake


Hi there

Can someone advise as how to prepare one self in order to stay awake as much as possible for a house-a-thon for 64 hours?
This is when someone has to stand with one hand touching the house at all times for that amount of hours.

i once needed to stay up like this a while back - a good sugar rush if you can stand the taste:

1 mt. dew code red
1 pack of skittles
1 red bull

mix all of the above and let the skittles disolve - drink. you couldn't sleep then if you wanted to.

Well, you must start training for this well beforehand by trying to disrupt your wake-sleep pattern as much as possible before the event. This will throw your pineal gland out of whack and will prevent it from releasing melatonin properly. This is not without its dangers however, as prolonged sleep deprivation can lead to psychotic episodes...

Once your sleep patern is sufficiently disrupted, just keep a plentiful supply of caffienated cold beverages on hand. Coffee won't do as you need to have three factors going on here:

1. Caffiene, to perk you up and block the melatonin production.
2. Sugar, to provide you with the quick energy fix you need.
3. Coldness. I mean they need to be kept really cold, so as to give you that pre-caffiene wakeup shock.

ive done a little over 55hrs before, i just drank lots(easily over 20 litres) of coke but i never have caffiene so i think it had more effect on me than it would most other people, and at the time i did it my sleeping pattern was totally random. i think flapjackboy's advice is pretty good, keeping cold will certanly help.

Just kidding. Of course lots of caffeine will help keep you awake, but will lead to another problem if you have to keep one hand on a house. Do you get bathroom breaks?

And if someone offers to shake your hand, don't do it. (It's a good trick to get you to take your hand off.)

I once decided to set my college radio station's record for longest shift, 50 hours. Ahead of time I just aimed for changing my sleep pattern to awake for 24 and asleep for 12, did this for about a week ahead of time, finally worked over to 30/15, but you feel like hell getting up, slept about 14 hours before I started and blinked through the time, it was a walk. I figure it would probably help more to block out access to the sun, try to whack that old diurnal habit.

Who says you can't sleep... as long as your hand is touching and your still standing..

Put superglue on your hand right before you have to place it on the house... I'm talking about some super-industrial strength type stuff.

Then just learn to sleep while standing up... you're sure to win....

I've personally have almost stayed up 3 days straight once before.. and that was just on something like 8 hours sleep prior, no coffee and a 1,500 mile drive along with it..

Years ago, I had two jobs. A few of the people at my part time job quit and it took us longer to finish. Well that ended up being 36 hours straight between the 2. Alot of pepsi and candy bars kept me going. Talk about hallucinating.
Oh yeh, I did not go back to my part time job after that.

I had to do an all nighter once. That's about the longest I've stayed up I think. Maybe like 4 hours of sleep for 48hours of uptime

I like do have Pepsi, Snickers, and then Hit Denny's for breakfast

Their coffee is not half bad for being "Denny's"

And if you actually follow tricky's advice, I pray to God that you don't accidently sleep and fall down. The feeling of a peeled palm isn't one of the nicest thing to wake up to!
