Static IP's working, but random issues.
Well, my minds not really into thinking about this at the moment, but this is driving me bonkers. Best guess is it's not going to be possible to use static IPs and will have to use dhcp and just hope the IPs I setup on the computers stick...At least that's what I figure from the only search through google that seemed to pertain to a setup similar to mine...
Anyway, fairly randomly, webpages will not load for a few minutes or seconds at a time on a random computer. Sometimes it seems to be aimed at random websites, but I am unsure considering the randomness of it happening. Here's a generic map of our network... '*' DHCP enabled, and can not be disabled. '&' DHCP enabled only for connection to ISP/Main router. '-' Has not been connected or modified after the change. ')' Connected wirelessly. '|' Connected via ethernet cable. Code:
ISP Just did a search and figure that this is common, and not an issue. Will do more research into this later. In the router logs, I do see "Blocked by DoS protection", but I'm not sure how or why this is happening. As well it was common to see these while running DHCP, but the connections would not have the same issues. </tidE> Code:
Virtual Server: IP to PS3 :3658 to 3658 (UDP) Well, any other ideas or things to look at as to what might be causing this? |
What OS is installed in the clients.
I have faced similar issues but only in Windows clients and I get it to work again just be repairing the network interface. Or in extreme circumstances Disable and enable it. But if in your case it is not a client problem and u believe it to be a network issue - try running traceroute from the offending m/c. |

Not sure if it could be client side, because these issues crop up on several different PC's, Salix 13.0, Slackware 13.0, 13.1, 13.37, and Windows 7. This time I did try the traceroute, not sure what to make of the output though. Salix 13.0 Traceroute before google worked. Code:
traceroute: unknown host www.google.com Another odd thing, is that after the apache error (which I don't have running), the page gets redirected to anything.com. Hmm...Now the router settings will not load. At least on this computer... |
This is really strange, and what makes it even more weirder is although I have been finding more threads around the net about it, no one seems to know anything about it...It's an internet ghost...
http://www.computing.net/answers/lin...lem/28922.html (Mine is not set for DMZ) http://www.tek-tips.com/viewthread.c...1593588&page=4 http://www.windstoneeditions.com/for...e-store-issues http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=534202 Need to remind myself to test in Elinks, lynx, links, firefox, and seamonkey for the same outcome. I am curious as to what this "hash.vern.com" and "[forgot this word].vern.com" is (which is running an Apache server on a Fedora system), and I wonder why would "all" of our computers be directed to it, and traceroute doesn't show anything for it, just an "unknown host" or IP's which point to either the site I'm looking for and several COX servers around the US. Also, why is it so darn random. As well as why did it all of a sudden crop up "after" I had switched to Static IP's rather than DHCP. A few hours ago, while there were issues, I had tinkered around with the wireless router. Disabled QoS, the sites that weren't working worked...For a while...Then I disabled dhcp (which I had to leave enabled for Roku), again the sites worked for a while... Either way, something is odd and either every single computer has been compromised (5 computers total each with a different OS & OS version) or the Motorola or Belkin router is doing something funny and not logging what it's actually doing... You were looking for "www.cherokeelessons.com" but that domain is not on this server. |
