Starting to dislike Linux

Ok im starting to dislike Linux, when i first started using it i thought it was great cuz it never locks up, stable, no BSOD, no Illegal program operation crap, free software. But now i dont like it as much as i used to. Its a pain in the a** to load programs, Its not intuitive at all, When things go wrong its like pulling teeth to get them fixed. When is Linux gonna be more user friendly? like the menu system, it dosnt make any sense, it needs to be grouped so that like functions are next to each other, For example login photo should be chosen from the login screen dialog box not a separate menu but maybe thats just RH i dont know how other distros are. Now all of a sudden my darn home folder dosnt open up with nautilus anymore my browser opens up when i click on it, reminds me of windows. I dont mind installing programs from command line or extracting files and going through a few steps but what the hell when you have a dependency problem you cant install the program unless you install 4 other things that is really horrible.
I think linux will never compete with windows until it becomes more user friendly and makes more sense. I would like to try another distro and see what others are like i have 2 other systems and a emty 30 gig HD on this system i could load up on. Im gonna have to get XP so i can do things quickly and not have to take an hour to load a program or figure out why i cant open up my home folder. Although...... I still like it for its stability and will continue to use it for internet browsing.

file associations are easy to fix. and dependencies just MAKE SENSE. we have synaptic (you seem like a GUIliker, i am too) running with apt-get to handle those for us

no see... the users have to fix themselves, not the operating system.. linux is a wonderful operating system ... its like saying a ferarri sucks when it doesnt go forward when you press the gas... well you need to change the gear DUH!! ... or when its in gear 4 and you say.. oh its going so slow.. its not the ferarris fault, its the drivers.. same thing is happening with you baja nick.. learn how to use linux first then complain... yes i think you should try more distros and use KDE .... the stuff your saying makes no sense... acttually its very intuitive [at least kde is... and your not going to learn everything in a day... just like going to school... you take time and you learn..

Maybe it's just me, but you seem to post a lot of controversial topics for no other reason than to be controversial. In fact in your RIAA thread you admitted to simply antagonizing members to get a reaction.

Any reason? Other than you just like to see people's reactions?

Cool

And if this is the case, I personally would like to see this stop as its uncalled for and comes off as being trollish like. No offense intended to you, but like MasterC did state, you do seem to start controversial type threads.

Regards.

I don't remember anyone ever getting mean when someone says something positive about Windows, its when members or the such post non-sense about how Linux sucks is what will get a rise out of most members. A Linux forum isn't the greatest place to start a conversation how Linux sucks or similiar. I personally don't go to Windows sites to tell them how much Windows sucks. I don't think it necessarily sucks though...

The thing I don't like to read though is the repetiveness of members or poeple claiming that Linux will never compete with Windows. The best response to that is, well, it was never intended to compete, its still not intended to compete. The only one's making it compete are the large companies like Lindows and Redhat that try to compete as they are making money off Linux.

Linus Torvalds created Linux as a hobby, never intending it to compete with anything and I do believe he still doesn't care if it gets bigger than Microsoft.

I don't care if it gets bigger or takes over the desktop market, I use it cause it works for me, not cause its user friendly or even hard to use.

Oh well...

That's my

Speaking just for myself I didn't find anything contraversial in your post BajaNick. Everything you said is absolutely true and the only problem I have with your post is that it's all been said before. You had nothing new to offer. I guess you just needed to vent and I think we've all had that experience with this operating system.

I'm kind of torn on this subject. I'd like to see Linux become more mainstream so that it will get more support from hardware, software, and web developers. On the other hand it's my hobby and has provided countless hours of intellectual stimulation and I wouldn't want to lose that.

i think linux makes tons more sense than windows, it's just a matter of learning the system. saying it makes no sense just means one doesn't understand it yet. the proof is that the more about linux one understands, the easier it seems to get. but the same isn't necessarily true of windows because so much of the OS is "hidden."

after about a month and 1/2 i'm slowly beginning to understand the linux basics, step by step, and i find it very logical and full of sense. it's just a matter of learning what to do (and where and how to do it) -- i.e., learning the system. windows on the other hand -- even though i've been using it probably for almost 10 years, i really don't have a clue about how it works (post DOS, anyway, with that registry nightmare). it just boots, and you do things, but when something goes wrong, who knows what to do. that's really what makes no sense.

though your posts do seem to tend toward the "controversial for the sake of controversy," you do make good points here. apologies for the personal comments.
