Spam bots picking up e-mail addresses from HTML code?

I've noticed lately that a few websites, rather than doing the good old <a href="mailto:me@hell.org">me@hell.org</a>, put something like me AT hell DOT org. Are there spam bots that randomly go around websites and extracting e-mail addresses from HTML code? If so, is there anyway to prevent this without removing the mailto: hyperlink? I'm just curious because I sure as heck don't want my e-mail addresses to be spammed to death.

Save for the "randomly" part , the answer is "YES!"
Prime targets are : Messageboards that aren't secured properly ; Spambot systematically scans all the members' profiles for email-adresses.

With the numerous improvements in Messaboard-software , this is on the decline though.

That's similar to what I've done on my page. It seems to work. If you want to see the real example, go to my site and click on my resume page and view the source (don't be looking for amazing web design. I used a wysiwyg editor and hand-edited some of it to make it look right). And if you wanna hire me too, I might be interested.lol
