Sony Vaio, no CD drive. Have installed Lubuntu, want to overwrite it with TinyXP.

Hi! I hope the title is clear enough.

Machine: Sony Vaio. No CD drive, plenty of USB ports. (I do not have access to a USB CD drive.)

Goal: Install TinyXP to Sony Vaio.

Timeline of events:
  • Originally, the Vaio had Windows 7 Starter on it.
  • On Windows 7 Starter, using the "Rufus" tool, I create a USB bootdisk for TinyXP from its .iso file.
  • I boot from the USB bootdisk. It starts to delete Windows 7. It "installs" TinyXP, then requests a reboot.
  • Upon reboot, "Windows XP Setup" appears. Setup errors accessing the file "E:\I386\asms" from the USB stick -- "Access is denied" -- failing the installation.
  • I try unpacking the contents of the .iso using UNetBootin on my Ubuntu desktop PC onto a USB drive, in the hope that the Vaio will read the contents and install.
  • Access is constantly denied to "I386\asms" and setup continually fails.
  • As an interim measure I install Lubuntu over everything to get a working OS on the Vaio.

Where can I go from here? Thanks.

Your title is clear; however; there are a few options--

You could keep Lubuntu on your Vaio.
Or you could re-install Win's 7...do you want Windows back?

You could if you wanted to set your computer up in a dual boot:
Code:

Windows 7 and Lubuntu ?
In order to install tinyxp like you want I think you have to have the key.

I have a Vaio too. It came with Win's 7 but I installed Fedora on it and it runs great!
