No, mine is a 'handed me down' from my daughter (or should I say "up" ). I use it just to make calls, and sometimes navigate. I don't even touch wifi.
There are other services like location that you can inadvertently turn on that can be running in the background. Even if you don't use social media like FB there can be services running that can heat up your phone.
I'm happy to be free of social media.
The wink is appreciated! Hahahahaha. I did say no and delete FB. Heh. After having indulged in a bit of levity I can say it is true that I think I'm addicted to the platform. For me a social media detox is the way to go.

To detox totally from social media I would have to almost detach entirely from the internet. I would miss LQ terribly. I have not yet arrived at a point where that would have more than short term value. For one to ten weeks perhaps, not longer.

Well-said! I must clarify what I mean by social media. You're absolutely correct. LQ is a form of social media. For the scope of this discussion I'm narrowly defining social media as FB, TikTok, Twitter, Snapchat, Instagram, etc. I don't group LQ or IRC into that mix as I don't feel they're as addictive or harmful. I'm still happily using LQ and IRC. The proprietary social media companies are much more addictive and they lock you into a particular reality silo that's hard to disengage from. You know it's bad when Zuckerburg discourages his own kids from using FB.
My thinking is if you have to actually think about whether or not online (or in person) activity is bad for you where you may need to detox? There's your answer.
I feel it's on each person to be capable of turning away from a something not good for them.

Absolutely true! I completely agree. For me social media is not a healthy activity, but, other people may not have an issue with it. Every person can decide if they wish to use social media. Hopefully a discussion of perceived harms of social media is acceptable here at LQ. If we are off course let us know. Thank you.
Apparently Meta is now going to create an upper tier of users in FB and Instagram. People will pay $24 per month and get extra services and visibility boosts from the search algorithms. https://www.vox.com/recode/2023/2/21...b-global-en-GB

I think Elon did that too with twitter or tried to? Pay $7.00 to be a verified user. Pay a social media company in addition to letting them mine your personal data? I'll pass thank you.
